Embalming and Its Goals Embalming is described as temporarily preserving the human remains to hold back decomposition as well as keep the body’s appearance so that it can be openly displayed at a funeral. This process has three goals – sanitation, presentation (which is sometimes called restoration) and the last one, preservation.
