Siemens offers a wide range of solutions and services in Singapore, where its Energy, Healthcare, Industry, and Infrastructure & Cities Sectors occupy leading positions. In fiscal 2012, Siemens in Singapore scored major successes in all four Sectors:
Energy Sector
Siemens continued to maintain its pole position in the energy industry by winning another power plant order. The company will be supplying the power block and main components for the new 411-MW combined cycle power plant at Tuaspring, the largest seawater desalination facility in Singapore. The order also includes a long-term service and maintenance contract. The Oil & Gas Division was awarded a contract to deliver seven packaged substations to the Australia Pacific LNG Project, which will convert coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG), in order to provide a cleaner and greener sustainable energy source. In addition, the Division was also awarded six contracts by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. to deliver electric power packages to five mid-water semi-submersible drill rigs and one drillship. Aside from these multi-million euro contracts, the Division was also honored with the Frost & Sullivan 2012 Asia-Pacific Market Penetration Leadership for Electrical Solutions for Oil & Gas award.
Healthcare Sector
Siemens is a key partner to Singapore’s healthcare industry, equipping government and private hospitals, private clinics and research centers with leading-edge technology. The company supplied a comprehensive package of in-vitro laboratory diagnostic solutions, including hematology, clinical chemistry and immunoassay systems, to Parkway Laboratory Services, and installed the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) systems at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. A staunch supporter of research and innovation, Siemens has supplied a research institute in Singapore with a CT Definition Flash scanner and a MAGNETOM Skyra 3T magnetic resonance (MRI) system, combined with IT solution, syngo.via. These systems will be used for animal research. Siemens has also successfully installed a second Biograph mMR system at another research institute.
Industry Sector
A leader in the water industry, Siemens won the contract to replace the MEMCOR membrane modules at the Kranji NEWater plant which Siemens helped build in 2003. In addition, the Water Technologies Business Unit was awarded a contract to supply a boiler feed water system with advanced environmentally friendly technologies for a 300-MW power plant that will be built in Davao City, Philippines. In addition to these business wins, the Water Technologies Business Unit won the Frost & Sullivan Water Technology Company of the Year 2012 award for its leading role and ongoing commitment in introducing sustainable water treatment technologies and solutions. The Industry Automation Division, a leading supplier in the pharmaceutical industry, secured a multi-million euro contract as the main electrical and automation vendor for Baxter Bioscience’s multipurpose facility in Singapore. The contract includes automation systems, instruments, a motor control center, drives and installation services, along with the latest version of PCS 7. The Marine Business Unit clinched a major contract to deliver hybrid propulsion system to four vessels. This marks a breakthrough for Siemens in selling this solution, an environmentally friendly alternative to diesel-electric systems.
Infrastructure & Cities Sector
Siemens has undertaken a first-of-its-kind study in Singapore to offer useful insights into the energy-use patterns of a compact and densely populated town, and to assess the technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness and commercial viability of different technologies for reducing energy consumption in Singapore. In the area of transportation, Siemens secured the C1360 rail system contract from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority to carry out improvements at three mass rapid transit (MRT) stations, and another contract to design, supply, install and commission a supervisory control system package for the extension of the East-West MRT line. Siemens will also supply fire safety solutions - Fibrolaser™ III and Sinorix N2 - to all Downtown Line 2 (phase 2) stations.
