Supermarket is a self-service grocery stores occupies a large floor space that offering a wide viarty of food and household products comprises meat, fresh produce, daily, canned and packaged goods as well as various non-food items It is however smaller than that of the hypermarket and big-box market in term of size with more limited in the range of merchandize.
The availability of a broad selection of goods are organised into aisles according to divisional sections. Besides that of certain designated area, most of the supermarket premises are usually keeping the bare roof without installing any suspended ceiling. Therefore, high intensity lightings would be essentially required for the ceiling height of approximately 5~7 meters. An average illuminance on ground level is usually required to maintain not less than 300 lux or even higher irrespective of ceiling height.

Fruit and vegetable merchandisers are particularily required high illuminance for enhancing the freshness look. This area is usually located under a bare roof of approximately 5~7 meters high. In this regard, high intensity luminaires would be essentially required to provide a minimum of 500 lux for vertical illuminance of 1.0~1.2 meters above ground. Traditionally, designers used to propose a lighting profile of 3 x 3 meter grid using 400W metal halide highbay as light source. This could be replaced by 200W G400 LED highbay with compatible illuminance with approximately 58% saving of electrical power. However, 1350 high intensity modular LED batten light could also be considered as an alternative of highbay that the luminaires could be either mouted to the surface of ceiling or drop down to 3~4 meters above ground level for better illuminace.
Display shelvings for grocery and daily could be located either under the bare roof or suspended ceiling that the luminaires are usually positioned along the aisles. Minimum illumiance of 300 lux or even higher would be essentially required. Likewise, 6030 modular recessed LED panel lights may be used as an alternative of recessed troffers using either traditional fluorescent lamp or D400 PLL tubular LED as light source. However, 1350 high intensity modular LED batten light as suggested for fruit and vegetable merchandisers above would be adequately providing the required illuminance for this area.
Gondolas are commonly located under the suspended ceiling for displaying instant food and dairy or common cosmatic merchandises. The traditional practice of lighting profile were using recessed troffer mixed with recessed downlight or spotlight for a ceiling height of approximately 3.5~4.0 meters. In this respect, D400 PLL tubular LED may be used as alternative of fluorescent lamp as light source of recessed troffers. However, 6030 modular recessed LED panel lights could be considered for better performances in illumination instead of recessed troffers.
