[F268]Find The Perfect Career
by Catherine Olivia, Cat
Here's a little quiz for you to take: What is the largest piece of furniture in your home right now? Could you name it? What item of furniture says more about you than any other? And, what piece of furniture is usually the first item that guests will see? Hint: The answer to all 3 questions is the same.

The answer to all the questions above? The humble sofa. Did you guess it? Our little quiz serves to underscore the important role your sofa plays in your home - both from a decorative as well as a functional perspective.

This means that when it comes time to buying a new sofa, you must make your choice carefully and thoughtfully. A sofa can make or break your home decorating efforts.

No two homes are the same. As well, no two homeowners are the same - and for this reason there is no type of sofa that is 'right' for everyone. There is only the sofa that is right for YOU and your home. When you shop around for a new sofa you can examine them from a design perspective (their appearance), or from a functional perspective (how they work and their components).

From a functional perspective, you have many choices in sofas. One that is ever-popular is the sectional sofa. With a sectional, you can adjust the placement of the individual units in your room to suit your fancy. If you like you can also buy recliner sofas (my uncle's favorite - great for napping), sleeper sofas - and even outdoor sofas that will handle inclement weather out on your back porch or deck area. I think that you should examine the functional aspect first: what do you need your sofa for? What will you need it to do? Where will it be used? How often will you use it - occasionally when guests come, or every day?

As far as design (appearance) is concerned, your choices are almost endless. You can choose sofas with a traditional feel - literally, using thick, pillow-like fabrics, with deep, restful cushions that you can just get happily lost in (I guess you know which ones I like for napping!). Or you can go with a more contemporary type - crisp lines, taut fabrics, simple color schemes.

Let me give you some basic recommendations. The first is to always match your sofa style to your overall room decor. If you try to match a contemporary sofa in a room with traditional decor (or vice versa), the resulting clash of styles will look very out of place. Don't make that mistake!

Need some more recommendations? If extra bed space will be needed, buy a sleeper sofa. And again, consider use: if you need a sofa for the guys to sit on while they eat potato chips and drink beer as they watch the Super Bowl, make sure the fabric will clean up easily! And if the kids will be using the sofa as a trampoline (and they usually do), then don't get one of those crappy sofas that are constructed of thin fabric stapled over a weak pine frame - get something that can handle what they are going to be throwing at it. Make sure you get a good warranty - from a reputable dealer. Properly selected, your sofa will last for many, many years.

Jobs today are often temporary or low paying enough to where anyone with a high school education could do them. If something better is desired, consumers are strongly recommended to do the most they can to get a better career. Doing so isn't impossible- but it will of course take a lot of hard work and determination.

Most would think that building a perfect resume and sending it to the employer would be the first step- but it's actually the second! The first step into landing a good career is to have plenty of educational credentials, references, and if possible an internship or some form of work experience. Only after all of these things are obtained should one fill out a resume- otherwise it will be left bare.

Resumes should be short and to the point. Giving an employer a 10-page report on one's life history is going to quickly cause them to throw the short novel into the trash without even glancing at it. Also note that drawing attention to the resume by using colored paper, perfumes, or even colored inks is a straight ticket to failure. Keep it simple and to the point- nothing more.

The hardest part of the entire operation is going to be the interview. If an employer liked your resume enough to call you back, you already have a good advantage over everyone else. The next part comes to dress correctly, answer questions smoothly, and overall display an outgoing behavior. Employers like "go getter" employees that like working, doing their company justice, and being loyal to their employers.

If one needs help getting into the career they need, or need guidance into finding the right job for their education and experience, looking at an employment agency is usually the best route to forego. An employment agency gets unemployed worker in touch with employers that might have a need for them. Some agencies will cost money, depending on their services offered and their ability to find employers.

The old saying that first impressions are everything is very true in the career industry. Employers will judge possible applicants based on how they look, how they act, talk, or even their goals in life. Getting a career is obviously going to be a very hard task- but not so hard as to discourage those who have failed a few times in the process.

Final Thoughts

In the end the trouble that it takes to get a career in one's preferred industry is worth the effort. No one enjoys working in the fast food industry or among other low-wage jobs. If you are on the edge of financial strain, consider the above tips for more information in the process.
