[F122]Father And Son By Cat Stevens
by Arnold Ahlstrom, Arn
God the Father is the ruling Supreme Being. If it wasn't for Him, Jesus would not have a world to rule, there wouldn't be a people to save, the earth would continually be empty, void and without form. In fact, there wouldn't even be a Jesus. Why not? Because God fathered Jesus in the eternal realms. God has the same relationship to every human soul.
The Father then gave the commandment and authority to Jesus to create the earth and see to that it was populated. Our Father also told his Son, and our brother, to give his commandments to its inhabitants, to atone for their sins, and to judge them according to their deeds.
"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth". (Matthew 28:18)
Jesus was the Firstborn spirit child of the Father before the world was formed. This gave Jesus the birth-right, but the recipient can never inherit more than the testator signs away, so even if the Father signs away everything, his own fatherhood wasn't given away. Jesus is the Son for ever and ever. He never wanted anything more.
"And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven". (John 3:13)
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Romans 8:29)
Jesus could not be bothfirstborn and only begotten in the flesh. Since we know that he was the Only Begotten Son in mortality, the "Firstborn" mustrefer to the birth of his Spirit before the world was.
The heart of God the Father and the heart of the Sonbeat like One. There is not one iota of a desire in the heart of God that the Son doesn't share. Likewise, there is nothing in the Son which deviatesfrom the perfect desire of his father.
"And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me". (John 17:19-21)
Jesus and his Father are obviouslynot one (as in a trinity) since Jesus prays that his followers should become unitedas Jesus and the Father are as one. How are they as one? They think the same thoughts! Of one heart! They share the same goals! Of one purpose!
It was neverthe Father's desire that changed to fit the will of his son. It was always the desire of the Sonwhich was adaptedafter the will of the Father. Always! There is nodoubt that Jesus is dependent on the Father.
There is no doubt that Jesus worships the Father, and we should too! Jesus taughtus to pray unto our Father, and not at any timedid he command manto pray to him!
"And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you". (John 16:23)
We must never forgetthat the more we come to love Jesus, we must seek to glorify the Father who gave us Jesus. And remember this passage of scripture, and then apply it all the way:
"Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise". (John 5:19)
