However, it would be unhealthy to try to lose weight by starving yourself or going on many of the fad diets that promise that you will lose ten pounds in a week or whatever.

Don't get discouraged, though. It is very important to lose weight. But it is dangerous to try to lose weight fast.

Since fast weight loss is not good for you, what is the best way to lose weight? If you are obese, the best way to start is to ask your doctor. However, if you only need to lose twenty pounds or so, the best weight loss program is to lose it slow and steady.

The Best Weight Loss Diet

You probably already know that you need to eat fewer calories than what you use up each day. For instance, if you eat 2,000 calories a day you need to be using up more than 2,000.

How do you know if you are using up more than you are taking in? There are charts that will tell you what a typical person your age and your gender should be eating each day. While you are working on losing weight, eat a little bit less than the suggested.

Change the Foods You Eat

What is strongly recommended is to stop eating fatty foods, fried foods, and sugary foods. Reduce as much as possible your intake of fast foods, donuts, and second helpings of desert.

Instead, eat foods that are full of good things such as protein, carbohydrates and vitamins. Simply doing this will help you lose weight. Eat all the vegetables and fruits you want, especially fruits such as watermelon. Watermelon is filling but with very few calories.

Replace sodas with water. Diet sodas are bad for you, and non-diet sodas are even worse. Each can has more than thirty teaspoons of sugar. Water is good for you and has no calories and no sugar. So try to drink at least eight 8-oz glasses and leave sodas alone.

Replacing a diet high in fat and sugar with a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains will help a lot in reducing your weight. But there is more that you can do to lose weight.

Moderate Daily Exercise

Combine this healthier diet with moderate daily exercise and you will lose weight at a healthy pace. Continue to eat a healthy diet and to exercise moderately every day and you will keep the extra weight off.

This isn't a plan for fast weight loss, but it is a plan for healthy weight loss. And once the extra weight is gone, this is an excellent plan to keep yourself fit and trim and feeling good.

For those of us who feel a bit over weight or fat even, there's a real desire in our "no time, fast moving" culture to find quick fix ways to achieve whatever results we want. It seems most of us these days are not totally happy with our look, size or shape and that means more and more who are not considered by their contempories to be overweight or even obese are still spending considerable time and effort help them look the image of the ideal person in our modern world.

Unfortunately this is in many cases the adverse affects of quick fix extreme diet plans that giver short term results but what about the longer term?

Once you have decided on an ideal target weight and have sought advice from your physician, you can set about finding a healthy diet and exercise plan that will help you achieve the weight loss that you want. And meanwhile, you can even intersperse some of the fast weight loss tips that you find here and there as well.

These can give your flagging enthusiasm a much needed boost, Its vital you get results because just think about it, you will find that it is inherently easier to continue on with the hard task of losing weight, if you at least have some successes under your belt. There's nothing like success to breed more success - the snowball effect really works!

To this end, doing things like taking smaller portion sizes during meal times, or even resolving not to take seconds, or even thirds, during meal times can be a great way for you to lose weight.

Other fast weight loss tips can include such sundry things as using smaller plates and glasses and even cups. By using smaller things you will then still be able to fill up on your favorite foods and beverages but with the knowledge that you are taking less than you would otherwise have done.

As you can see these types of fast weight loss tips are psychological, they will not result in you going from a size 20 to a size 10 overnight, and nor should you (for very good health reasons) but in the end every little helps, and if it helps you to lose weight, then there's really nothing to complain about, just get on and do it!
