Yet ceilings themselves can serve as the “fifth wall” in a room or room settings.
It is said that 50 % of our lives are spent asleep or in our bedrooms. What about the ceiling or “roof over our heads”. Ceilings must be an integral component of any planning and follow through when it comes to the very principles of Feng Shui. If the head was not important why would it be connected to our bodies? It is the relationships of the ceilings of our abodes and offices to our head that makes all the sway. Consider ceilings and ceiling structures when looking at the design of your spaces and the arrangement of your furnishings. What is overhead has as much, if not even more impact than what is ahead of us and our eyes – on our walls. That is why it is most important to check carefully and thoroughly to se if anything on the ceiling or ceiling areas is pointing directly or even passively at our heads. Watch out for beam, points or arrows and low or slanted ceilings and their structures.
In terms of ceilings and what can be considered “optimal ceiling height” it can be generally said that this will in the range of 10 and 12 feet high. On the other hand do not panic if your ceiling is less than 10 feet high. This is not crucial and may have been chosen for logistical or aesthetic reasons. However if on the other hand if the ceiling is less than 8 feet high – then you may well find yourself limited in options for your life and in essence “hemmed in”.
What color is best for painting your ceilings? You can never go wrong with white – it's neutral and reflects light and energies well. The colors to watch for and avoid “like a summer storm or hurricane “ or storm and rain like colors – the dark blue / purple of an impending summer or fall thunderstorm and water like blue shade colors.
These can bring cloudy and even dismal thoughts, events and processes into your home or office. They can even flavor events and moods in a most dismal way. These dark colors should especially be avoided if you are planning a banquet or reception or another festive event at meting places or such venues at hotel banquet rooms.
The question often arises – what of slanted ceilings. These can be said to generally not to pose a problem. However there is one case in point. Sleeping and sleeping quarters that are under slanted ceilings are not a wise choice. It's as if you have a wedge forever pushing down on you and driving discord in your life. If you have no other choice – then have a smooth barrier intervene. It could be a bed drape overhead or even such a simple barrier as hanging bamboo flutes or slats.
In a similar manner ceiling beams can beam our harmful energies. It's as if you have a dagger pointed at you. Damocles sword itself. Plan not to have seating (including eating) areas under such beams. They should be reserved mainly for traffic areas – where you move from one part of your home or office to another area. Similarly it is a very poor choice to have sleeping areas located under these daggers of negative power robbing you of your strength, power and ingenuity as you rest or sleep under them. If nothing can be done to cover these beams , as in erecting a “false ceiling” , then do your best to arrange so that these beams and especially their points are not directly above the head and facial areas of yourself , your family and your loved ones.
Lastly one case in point is skylights. Skylights bring in energy and light.
They can only serve to brighten your environment and pass along vital refreshing powers to you and your loved ones. If at all possible it's wonderful if a skylight can be installed in your bedroom areas. Feng Shui!
Shape is one of they key major factors when dealing with Feng Shui. Concerns of luck , health and prosperity often all come back to simple concerns , concepts and tactics involved with “shape and form” If there is one shape that can be considered to be “best” that would be rectangular forms. On the other side of the equation – the shape of a building, an abode or a workplace that is the shape that must be remedied – the one that every work around must be anticipated and completed – that would be the “L-shape” room form. In the middle would be square room shapes. Square shapes are a variation of rectangular shapes. At its very core as well as basis L shapes can be can consider “odd”, “unfinished” and “just not right” or “correct”..
You can hope that your land if in a triangular form is laid out as a “true triangle. In the case of a triangular form then wider on the northern and southern ends is considered to be best. If yon the other hand your building or property is not in the shape or layout of a true triangle then work to try or arrange or modify your property lines. The back of the property or building should be wider than the front. If not work it so that the converse is so. The front end area can be situated so that it is narrower than the back still having difficulties? Place a live plant or even a lamp in the very opposite corner. Plant a hedge, hedges or n creeper type plants on, up or along the walls. This will help and work to counter any of the sha qi energies which can well are in the nearby atmosphere emanating from these corners areas.
When it comes to the shape or shapes of your home or office building then the wisest choice of all is basic rectangular shape. With simple rectangular shapes you can be assured that all rooms and their corner areas will be covered and not left exposed outside the basic areas of the flow of vital "qi". If you not fortunate enough and your home, abode or office structure does have "L shapes" then these missing corners again can again be covered with the use of trees or plants being planted in critical areas. A spotlight, lamp or even a skylight on the roof can be utilized. Alternatively mirrors can fill the void, or as an alternate the beautiful sound of wind chimes a be used to fill the voids.
In a similar manner rooms with L-shapes can be trouble. These can be enclosed with partitions, standing bookshelves or if necessary furniture itself or plants can be used to close the loop to shield and keep out negative sha qi.
Furnishing and accessories play a final role in the symmetry of a household and its furnishings whether it is the family abode or even a hotel room on a family holiday or vacation or for a festive family event or banquet Whether you are choosing a table or an etched crystal beaker for a wedding reception symmetry of surroundings is all key. This will determine whether the whole area and areas are in balance.
Lastly the shape of the furniture should reflect the shape of the room itself. For example if you have a square room. Use a square, round or octagonal table. If you are lucky enough to have a simple , gracious , balanced room in the preferred shape of a rectangle , then it is a simple choice to use a rectangular table unless where it is a dining room to entertain friends and family at major family hosted celebrations such as weddings or wedding engagement parties. You can never go wrong with the simplicity of a round or circular dining room table. A round table has no sharp edges or edges sticking out to offend or irritate. Feng Shui.
