[A351]Air Conditioners With Heater
by Mohit Sharma, Moh

ACs still remains a third priority purchase when compared with refrigerators and televisions. However the sales have been boosted by the increasing demand in the middle- income group and small offices home-office segments. Air-conditioning industry is growing at a hectic pace and is providing a huge opportunity for all the players. The market has overall done well. The product mix is changing towards high value Split AC.

The increasing affordability levels and the high ambient temperatures experienced in the summer months have been key demand drivers

Another reason for the push in sales is observed due to the narrowing difference between the branded and non-branded. In fact based to the latest industry trends, industry insiders reveal that branded AC players are thinking over the idea of further reducing prices. At present, an entry-level branded AC is priced at about Rs 18,000, which is likely to be brought down to Rs 12,000. Owing to the seasonality of demand in the AC business, nearly 70 per cent of the annual sales takes place in the months of March to May. "In next two to three years, there is huge scope for the market to expand tremendously. The industry is expected to grow at about 20 per cent per annum

Types of Air Conditioner Equipment - to make your easy

Window and through-wall units: Generally air conditioners in homes or other buildings are traditional single rectangular units used to cool an apartment, a house or part of it, or part of a building. The air conditioner units need to have access to the space they are cooling (the inside) and a heat sink. Usually the outside air is used to cool the condenser section. For this purpose, single unit air conditioners are placed in windows or through openings in a wall made for the air conditioner; the latter type includes portable air conditioners.

Window and through-wall air conditioners have opening on both the inside and outside, so that the inside air in order to be cooled can be blown in and out by a fan in the unit, and outside air can also be blown in and out by another fan to act as the heat sink. The controls are on the inside.

A large house or building may have several such units. Should virtually every room be cooled with its own air conditioning unit, most of the day, it would be less expensive to use central air conditioning, though that may not be physically possible.

Evaporative coolers:
In extreme dry climates, evaporative coolers are popular for improving the dry climate and therefore
the comfort during hot weather conditions. This type of cooler is the most commonly used cooler
in Iran. Iran has the largest number of such units in comparison to any country in the world.
Hence these type of coolers are sometimes also referred to as persian coolers. This type of cooler
draws outside air through a wet pad, such as a large sponge soaked with water. The sensible heat
from the incoming air, as measured by a dry bulb thermometer is reduced. If the entering air is
dry enough, the results can be quite comfortable. These coolers cost less and are mechanically
simple to understand and maintain.

Central air conditioning:

Central air conditioning performs like a regular air conditioner but has several added benefits:

?Room air is drawn in from various parts of the house through return-air ducts, when the air
handling unit turns on,. This air is pulled through a filter where airborne particles such as
dust and lint are removed. Sophisticated filters are also capable of removing microscopic
pollutants as well. The filtered air is routed to air supply ductwork that carries it back to
rooms. This cycle repeats continually whenever the air conditioner is running.

?Because the central air conditioning unit is located outside the home, it offers a lower level
of noise indoors than a free-standing air conditioning unit.

Another visible trend in AC is a movement towards more value-added models. With the
increasing number of people setting up home-offices, the demand for aesthetically superior
models, especially split ACs, is expected to rise. A outcome of this would be a further decline
of the unorganised sector, which may not have the technical means to incorporate value-added
features in their ACs.

AC brands include Hitachi, Electrolux, Panasonic and many more. Electrolux India, a new entrant
in air-conditioner (AC) segment, topped the sales in 1-ton and 0.75-ton capacity split ACs
by more than 40 percent in January 2005, according to ORG-Marg data.
