[E253]England National Football Team
by Claudia Beckford, Cla
Just a few weeks before the ending of last year; the Italian Fabio Capello was appointed as the new England National team coach. The news was a splash of cold water for many in the English country as Capello was to replace Steve McClaren due to his unsatisfactory and unsuccessful performance which left the team out of the Euro 2008 competition.

Capello who is currently 61-year- old and a former AC Milan (1991-96) - (97-98), Juventus (2004-2006), Real Madrid (96-97 - 2006-07), and Roma (99-2004) coach signed a 4 ½- year contract with the Football Association. This means Capello will lead the team through the South Africa World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2012.

Besides leading his clubs to nine League titles and one European Championship, Capello, who does have such an broaden background was not the first option for the position in question as the English Football association had previously offered the job to former Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho who was clear in turning down the deal.

Mourinho’s negative reaction to the offer made Fabio Capello the man for the job; but it has certainly been a bumpy ride. First of all; he is not an Englishman, second he is the highest paid national coach and lastly; he is a total character mainly known for setting the rules and doing whatever it takes to have his team play the football he wants them to play and the best of all is he has never failed to prove his way is the right way. Many have announced he will do anything to get England to win the next World Cup which is the closest task he has at hand now that England has been kept out of the next European Championship.

"I am delighted that Fabio Capello has agreed to become England Manager. When we set out to recruit the new manager, we said we were committed to appointing a world-class candidate," FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick said Friday.

Don Fabio; as the press is now referring to Capello will definitely not let the media run the show as they are used to. Capello is the man to turn to when things just don’t work anymore; it is true this can get really ugly between the ones opposing the idea and the ones supporting it, but the pressing situation of the English team is something to take very seriously if England's football is to continue as one of the best ones in the World.
