by C. Deveraux, C.

One of the most important decisions you will ever make besides choosing a marriage partner is selecting the diamond jewelry for an engagement rings. The jewelry that you select for your engagement ring is going to be something that marks one of the biggest occasions in your life so you will want to make sure it is perfect.

Knowing as much information as possible is one of the best ways to help when selecting the perfect diamond and setting for your engagement ring. You should know jewelry information before you begin shopping to make sure you find the best fine jewelry for your marriage partner so that it aptly displays your love and romance. You should make sure you know about diamond cuts in addition to proper care for diamonds so that you will be able to make an informed decision when shopping.

The first important step in choosing jewelry is to decide what your budget is going to be. This doesn’t mean you necessary have to set a specific money limit and stick to it. Having a budget can mean that you select the perfect diamond jewelry for a cheaper price. Don’t feel you have to pay a high price for engagement rings, rather pay for what you find to be the perfect choice. Once you do find your perfect ring don’t just pay the amount even if you have the money. Always try to negotiate for a better price since you may actually be able to save some money. The worst that can happen is the jewelry stores won’t go lower in price and you will just have to pay the listed price.

The next step you will need to do is consider which stone you are going to get. It is generally best to choose a diamond rather than any other stone since this is the tradition for engagement rings. However, if you absolutely know your potential marriage partner doesn’t like diamonds or prefers another stone then you may want to consider other fine jewelry besides a diamond ring.

When it comes to diamonds there are four things you need to be aware of when selecting a stone. The first in clarity which has a great deal to do with the price of the jewelry. Clarity refers to how easily you can recognize any imperfections the diamond may have. Less flaws in the diamond mean it will reflect light better, making diamond jewelry sparkle more.

Next you should consider color. This can be anything from clear or colorless to faint yellow. A diamond is more expensive if you are going for a colorless one. While there are colored diamonds available it is best to stick with the traditional colorless diamonds unless your potential marriage partner specifically likes another color.

The third thing to consider is cut which is the shape of the diamond jewelry. The cut is just as important as the clarity and color of a diamond and you should ask to see a variety of options in order to decide which is the best option for your setting.

The final thing to consider is the carat. This is the weight of the diamond and as a result the size. Each diamond is given points so that a hundred points equals one carat. On average the higher the carat you are choosing the more expensive the jewelry is going to be.

When buying an engagement ring, it is extremely important to keep in mind the lifestyle of the bride-to-be; the metals of the engagement ring are very important to the lifespan of the ring. For many women, a platinum engagement ring is the perfect choice. Platinum is a white metal that is very dense (heavy) and very strong. Generally, it is used in an almost pure form. It will not tarnish or lose its color due to its purity. Platinum is ideal for someone with skin allergies as it is hypoallergenic and will not cause skin irritations. Other metals are not used in their pure form and cannot make these types of promises because of that fact.

Why Not White Gold

Some would ask if white gold is the same as platinum and the answer is quite simply, no. Each of these metals has their own properties, which is an obvious reason for what makes them different. However, the largest difference to someone who is shopping for an engagement ring is that the white gold is a mix of white gold and other metals such a palladium and silver. After the ring is formed, it must be coated with another metal called Rhodium, which is a white chemical coating. This coating must be reapplied every year to year and one-half in order to keep the band looking white. White gold without the coating is quite gray in color, not really white at all.

So Why Chose the Platinum Engagement Ring

Platinum, on the other hand, is quite white in color and since used in a pure form, the color remains true for the life of the ring. While, the platinum engagement ring will be much more expensive than it's competitors for many reasons, these reasons should not deter you from making the purchase. It is true that platinum is very rare, more rare than gold, which will often force the price of the setting to be double the cost of a similar setting made of white gold but the rarity of the metal only increases the value of the ring. In addition, because it is used in a pure form (generally 95% pure), it is extremely durable.

With This Platinum Engagement Ring?

Today, platinum engagement rings are very popular because of their durability but also because of their bright true appearance. The platinum engagement ring is known for it's breathtaking shine, which reflects the brilliance and sparkle of the gemstones placed upon it. Platinum is also very long wearing so the lifespan of the platinum engagement ring is one that could span many generations.
