Let's suppose you decide that your nose is imperfect. Perhaps this has been an issue that has plagued your sense of well being throughout the course of your life. There are a number of reasons that this might be ailing you.

One reason you might not like your nose or some other body part is because you are comparing yourself to what you think is beautiful in the world out side of you. Maybe you admire a celebrity whom you wish you could be more like, and they seem to have a more perfect nose and facial structure than what you see in yourself.

Another reason you might not be critical of yourself is because someone has made fun of a certain flaw that you have. Perhaps you've endured much ridicule since childhood. Maybe it stopped when you became an adult but you still feel like everyone is staring at you. And when you look in the mirror, you can't help but stare at your nose or whatever body part seems imperfect.

Before you decide to get a nose job or other cosmetic surgery, it's important to fully examine why you want to get such a procedure done. Perhaps if you think the whole thing through, you may decide that surgery is not for you. Or perhaps it will become clear that it is right for you, and is not as expensive or daunting to go through with surgery as you thought.

One thing to remember is that your body is not invincible. Surgery does have its risks, some of which may be somewhat irreversible. If you get a nose job, for example, the bone structure of your nose may be altered permanently. If you decide you don't like the result, it can be fixed to some degree. But in reality, there are no guarantees.

However, it's up to you to sit down and think about which would be worse: taking a risk on a potentially irreversible cosmetic alteration and having to live with that, or not taking the risk and continuing to live with your insecurities.

But wait a moment; is that nose job, for example, really going to remove your insecurities? Of course not. It may give you a boost of confidence and make you feel more attractive, but then again, you can find such things without surgery.

Did you know that there are people who are actually attracted to others because of their flaws? If you're single and you think your appearance is so imperfect, have you thought about the fact that someday you may meet someone who wants to be with you and loves you BECAUSE you are imperfect? Yes, these people do exist! Many of them!

So before you go through with any cosmetic surgery, consult a close friend, a pastor, a doctor, and perhaps a therapist BEFORE you consult the cosmetic surgeon. The surgeon is most likely going to encourage you to go through with the procedure because, naturally, they want your business. Therefore, they will be biased.

Just make sure you think through any permanent cosmetic changes before you go through with them, and be sure that it is a decision you can live with for the rest of your life.
