Did you know that weight loss (and weight gain) is simple mathematics? For example, if you were to eat an extra 100 calories per day you would gain 10 lbs in one year. The good news is that the opposite holds true too - burn 100 calories more per day than what you take in and by the end of the year you can lose 10 lb. But why is it so much harder to lose weight than to gain it? Because it takes a matter of minutes (sometimes seconds) to eat 100 calories, but longer to burn it off.
Looking at the big picture of losing say 30 or 40 pounds can feel daunting, so give yourself a break. That is, break your goal down into small doable pieces. Accumulate a 100 calorie deficit per day - burn 100 calories more than you consume - and you will lose 10 pounds by the end of the year. Double that and you've lost 20! It's easier than you might think.
First, do you ever eat something just because it's there? You can eat a couple hundred calories and not even realize it. The mayo or dressing on a deli sandwich, the butter served with the bread basket or a cookie from the office lunch room... before you know it you've eaten 100 calories. Pay attention to condiments and cheese that are added to most sandwiches. If you can take it or leave it, leave it. Watch out for snack plates at the office or home. It's easy to eat 100 calories or more when you're not even hungry. Look at your eating habits to see where you can carve unwanted items. My motto is, eat when you're hungry and make it worth the calories!
Next, look at the calories you put out. Use an accelerometer (a pager-like device that accurately measures calories burned during activity) to measure your current level of calorie burn and then burn more over time. To burn an extra 50-100 calories park farther away, take the stairs, walk the dog an extra block and do a few jumping jacks. The key is to measure the calories so that you can see your success daily and know that what you are doing is working.
Start measuring calories out and paying attention to "hidden" calories coming in. You will quickly see how to achieve a 100 or more calorie deficit per day and easily have a more fit and trim body next year!
Hunger is our body signal to warn us that it need energy. It is a good thing when it occurs in that respect. However It can be a negative signal when it make us eat more than we should; that is overeating. If we do not control all this, at the end of the day, this will result in weight gain for us. In fact one of the, most difficult challenges facing most people when trying to lose weight is to control their hunger. Only once you have learn to control your hunger urges will you be on your first steps to a successful weight loss plan.
1. Appetite suppressants: People often ask me whether appetite suppressants really work or not. Truth to be told, I have found from my research that most of them don't work at all! Plus many of the popular appetite suppressants can have harmful side effects on your body. The only appetite suppressant I would recommend is Hoodia, firstly because it is completely natural (being made form the Hoodia cactus), and secondly, it has worked for me! I would recommend that you stay way from any diet pill that contains caffeine or any other stimulants!
Hoodia comes in either pill form or powdered form. Personally, I find the powdered form works best. Perhaps, this is because the powdered form is more readily absorbed into our body. To prepare the detox drink, take One teaspoonful of Hoodia Powder, mix it with one cup of water and some lemon juice. Be forewarn, the taste is not to everybody liking. As for myself, I literally force it down my throat.
But there was one major advantage of following this technique. I could go on fasting for an indefinite period, say twenty, or even forty days, and feel no hunger pangs! Absolutely amazing, isn't it?
2. Hunger pangs are positive signals: Don't be afraid of hunger pangs, and don't look at them as though they are punishments to be endured! Hunger pangs are positive signals of the fact that your body is working hard to help you with weight loss. These hunger pangs are caused when your body releases the toxins present inside your fat deposits.
Learn to control your hunger pangs for 2 weeks approximately. Do not fast for too long. You will end up being anorexic which is also bad for your health. Instead maintain a balance and discipline yourself. You should make a point to in the end change your lifestyle after you have reached the ideal weight that you aimed to reach. Otherwise, what you lost in terms of weight will return if you do not change your eating habits.
