[L598]Love Dont Live Her
by I Henman, I H
Migraines could be killing. I know of a person who suffered from it right from her childhood days. The misery went into such an extent that the poor child used to rush into the bathroom at the first symptom of attack, lie down prone on the floor and pray to God to take her life as the excruciating pain literary tore her apart. No distraction of the mind could diminish the torment nor provide a relief for the hapless child. It was such a helpless situation. I wanted to offer migraine treatments, just to comfort the child, but had no knowledge of any migraine treatments that could offer relief. I felt frustrated and sad.

Things have however improved since then. Migraine treatments introduced about a decade back worked on the principle that reduction or elimination of the pain could be achieved by focusing on the changing of the alpha/beta wave patterns of the brain. This worked by warming the hands and rubbing the feet together ? the idea originally came from the early symptoms of the onset when these extremities suddenly started getting cold. This was among the advanced migraine treatments of the sixties and seventies where a form of biofeedback was used. As a matter of fact, warming did two things at a time ? it helped return the blood flow to the extremities and changed the brain wave patterns so that the focus could not be so foreboding.

Sadly enough, although migraine treatments include eliminating allergic toxins from coming into contact with the person (by way of removal of offending food, drink, pollens, etc.) no significant relief could be initiated, the only viable therapy being intake of Imitrex that prompted violent retching and the highly controversial and addictive Vicodin. The only consolation was the education sessions at the doctor's office where those seeking migraine treatments were consoled and information on famous migraine sufferers were given. Medical explanation was also provided.

It may not be out of place to relate a story I heard from a paramedic about a person who often suffered from migraine. Hearing about a quack who had a sure cure for the ailment, he rushed to him expecting migraine treatments, but was only blindfolded for a minute. A heavy blow on his leg from a wooden bar momentarily maimed him and while nursing the injury, he forgot about the migraine.

The truth is, the subject is even today not understood properly, and so permanent migraine treatments look some distance away.

Some people know that when they are depressed, the best thing to do is to find out why. However, many are not even able to tell that they are depressed in the first place. And so they end up going through their days doing things, and never knowing why they did them. If you have a friend like that, you might want to suggest some help.

In modern day America, many people refer to depression as ?the blues.? Yes, one time or another, we've all had it before. But it ain't all the time that someone feels like he's got to hurt himself or somebody else. That kind of depression is clinical. At times like that, what you need is a doctor.

Depression is an illness that affects everybody. You could be black or white, green or orange; as long as you've got feelings, depression is one of them. Now here's the catch: not everybody is manic or clinical depressive. If you are one of those, you need help, and you need it fast. Talk to friends that truly love and care for you and they will help you out? much more than you can help yourself.

Depression manifests in so many ways that they are difficult to track at best. Some forms of the condition though, have symptoms that are milder than what comes with major depression. Major depression is the type where you become suicidal; I'm sure you have heard of that one before. Work to ensure you don't stay depressed for any period of time. It's not healthy one bit.

Depression rarely, if ever, comes upon you as a blast. It begins softly, and then it deepens gradually over several months or years, depending on how quickly you catch it ? or not. I'd pray you were one of the few people who caught on quick so YOU don't make a mess of YOU, before it's too late.

All over the world, people get depressed time and again ? there's no racial or geographical selection. The point is that as long as people have things to get emotional about, depression will exist. This thus suggests that depression is actually a feeling, but one that should not be allowed to dwell.

It is common for someone depressed to go to bed, sleep all of five hours, and get up in the morning feeling tired and blue. You could go through the whole day feeling like that, and the next would be no different. Not a good sign, because you are certainly going to begin being mean to people around you.

It is normal to find a depressed person restless and agitated. You will see the fidgety movements and the pacing, and you will know something is the matter. However doing something about it could be something beyond you if the person is unwilling to face up to the condition or do something about it.
