There are many good reasons to keep pet chickens around, not only do they eat the scraps from your table but the hens can provide farm fresh eggs on a daily basis. One important factor that has to be mentioned is that like other living creatures, chickens need to spend time outdoors in the sunlight.
Chickens can be amusing pets. They love to take dust baths and they do a service for your lawn also. They might eat at new shoots of plants but they also scratch at the dirt and loosen it up. If you lawn has a bug problem then a chicken or chickens can do a valuable service. They love to eat bugs. After chickens are feed their daily dose of grain, they spend the rest of the day scratching at the ground looking for the little bugs that are all lawns. This is an important source of protein for their diet.
For those wanting to have a trained chicken, it is feasible. They are easily trained with food as a reward. After some time of getting to know your birds, petting and hand feeding them is possible. Once they know you are a source of food they will happily follow you around the lawn waiting for the next hand out.
But for those who want a chicken to rest in their lap and become a true friend it would be best to raise it from a baby chic. Baby chics do need special care in that they require a fresh environment and a heat source. The fresh environment means constant cleaning their waste and a heat source can be as simple as a light bulb. Four to Five week old chics are old enough to go outside and join with the rest of your flock but in those first weeks of bonding, your child can have a lifelong friend. Yes the pet chickens? life.
Unfortunately should a person choose not to treat this problem it could lead to other health issues and complications for them. The main one of these being that the lining of the esophagus will become damaged and will then become inflamed.
The main reason for the lining becoming damaged is that the liquid, which has been regurgitated from the stomach, contains acid along with an enzyme known as pepsin. It is this enzyme that helps to break down the proteins in the food that you eat so your body is able to absorb them more easily and they therefore contain caustic properties. Although the pepsin's can cause damage it is commonly believed that the main culprit for the discomfort and pain felt with acid reflux is the acid contained in the liquid that has been regurgitated.
Although most people are likely to suffer from some form of acid reflux in their lives, for some the problem can be come extremely severe. If the condition does become chronic then the sufferer will learn how to deal and cope with it for the rest of their lives. They may find that they will need to use treatment continuously in order to keep control over the problem.
If a person does suffer from this particular condition they may find that it is much more prevalent at night, rather than during the daytime. This is because whilst they are stood up or sat down the liquid that they have regurgitated is actually able to flow back down in to the stomach because of gravity. Also although you may not notice it you are actually swallowing on a regularly basis and so any liquid that has come up from the stomach is the carried back down to the stomach.
Another reason for why certain people may suffer more from acid reflux at night rather than in the day is because the levels of saliva they are producing are reduced as they sleep. In the saliva, that your mouth produces is bicarbonate and this when it travels down the esophagus helps to neutralize any acids that are in it.
A person who suffers from acid reflux disease may find that the problem becomes worse at night because, firstly their body is actually unable to eliminate the liquid that has been brought up in the first place. Secondly, we swallow less at night and so the amount of saliva containing bicarbonate is reduced as well. Certainly if a person does not take any kind of medication prior to going to bed, they will find that the regurgitated liquid from the stomach is able to settle in the esophagus for much longer and so end causing damage to the lining.
As we have previously mentioned any one could actually find themselves suffering from acid reflux disease. However, there are some people who are much more susceptible to suffering from this particular stomach complaint than others. For example, some pregnant women because of hormonal changes in their bodies find themselves suffering from this condition. Also, those people who are overweight or obese are also highly susceptible to suffer from this kind of stomach complaint.
