The city of Madrid is situated right in the heart of the peninsula at a height of 646 meters above sea level. With a population touching a little over three million, the city has assumed gigantic proportions as a cosmopolitan city famous for its tourist attractions. It is home to the headquarters for the Public Administration, government, the Spanish Parliament as well as the home of the Spanish Royal Family. Madrid is the hub of Spain’s banking and industrial sectors. A chief characteristic of Madrid’s culture is its intensity. Moreover, the artistic activity and the lively nightlife add to the charm of this fabulous capital city.

Madrid City houses a number of gardens and museums which are an absolute delight to visit. The Jardin Botanico Botanical Gardens will enthrall visitors and tourists with its fabulous collection of about 30,000 different species of trees and plants collected from all over the world. The museum located beside the Prado Museum has different sections which are divided by magnificent avenues of trees. Each tree and plant located here has a label of its Latin name and species. The visitors need to note that the museum opens from 10.00 A.M. to 8 P.M. daily.
The big parks situated all over the city of Madrid are perfect avenues for a stroll. One of the chief prominent parks is the ‘Reitro’ park which also happens to be the largest and most beautiful of all the parks in the city. The park complete with over 130 hectares of woodland is a tree-clad park situated in the middle of an asphalt sea. The fine gateways all provide excellent passages for entering the park. The parks avenues of lofty trees and thick bushes have white stone figures of the Kings and Queens of Spain popping out at the visitors. A large artificial lake situated just inside the park is a notable attraction for the tourists. One can hire row-boats to pass some relaxing and eventful time at the park. The rose garden inside the park along with the Cecilio Rodriguez gardens allow for a little privacy time for the strollers to just take in the fresh air. The visitors can delight themselves to some quiet time at the art exhibitions held in the two buildings located in the middle of the park. These buildings are known as the ‘Palacio de Velazquez’ and ‘Palacio de Cristal’.
Another beautiful park worth a visit is the Casa de Campo which is located on the right bank of the Manzanares River. The park has an area of about 4000 acres. One can rent rowboats to enjoy a ride around the artificial lake situated within the park. The park also houses facilities for swimming and playing a game of tennis. The tourists will love a visit to one of the small and quiet parks ‘Parque Quinta Funte Del Berro’ which has a crisscross of paved pathways and lined with fountains and flower beds for a visual delight.

The clock tower at Puerta del Sol is another major attraction in this marvellous city owing to the significance it holds especially on New Year's eve when the bell rings and Spaniards eat twelve grapes to usher in the new year.

Like in the whole of Europe, football events are a major attraction in Madrid. Being home to among others the Real Madrid Football Club, visitors come in great numbers during such seasons as La Liga to indulge in the energy that football always seems to elicit.

Bilbao, Tribunal and Puerta del Sol are some of the clubbing areas that have visitors flocking 24 hours to have a great time.

There is so much to marvel at in Madrid from the natural attractions to festivals like bullfighting. This city is thriving both economically and socially with its large population and always ready to receive visitors in large numbers, who stream in from the world over whether its winter, summer or fall.
