[M158]Make Your Own Social Network
by Thomas333 Vangunten333, Tho
Social Network about paranormal Perhaps the biggest question that one has to answer when it comes to UFO sightings and other paranormal phenomena is: Are they for real?
As the name suggests, an unidentified flying object, more commonly known as UFO, is ?any airborne object which by performance, aerodynamic characteristics, or unusual features, does not conform to any presently known aircraft or missile type, or which cannot be positively identified as a familiar object? (Air Force Regulation 200-2).
UFO sightings have been reported all around the globe but according to the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO studies, 90-95% of these sightings are later identified. In the 1960s, about 853 flying disk sightings were reported by 140 newspapers from Canada, Washington DC and US States except Montana. Despite the many reports about UFOs, there are still many sightings which are unreported due to fear if the social stigma surrounding the subject. Aside from this, a lot of countries, unlike the US, have no independent body which has the official authority to report and evaluate UFO evidence.
Even before the terms ?flying saucer? and ?UFO? were coined, several sighting have already been reported, some dating back as early as the mid nineteenth century. The first UFO wave came in 1946 and ended with the Roswell UFO incident. Paranormal research on UFOs began on July 9 and results show that UFOs are not altogether unreal and that there was disk-shaped objects flying around in the area above the US. These objects are characterized by ?extreme rates of climb [and] maneuverability,? general lack of noise, absence of trail, occasional formation flying, and ?evasive? behavior ?when sighted or contacted by friendly aircraft and radar,? suggesting that these are controlled aircrafts. By 1947, Project Sign was launched, and then later became Project Grudge and Project Blue Book in 1952. In 1970, Blue Book ended, marking the end of the official Air Force investigations.
Aside from the visual evidences, paranormal investigators claim that there indirect physical evidences such as radar contact and UFPO photos. Direct physical evidences include what Hynek calls as ?close encounter? and cases such as electromagnetic interference, physiological/biological effects and landing traces such as the appearance of the crop circles in the US, UK, Canada and Russia. Naturalistic explanations for crop circles say that these markings were either man-made hoaxes or geological abnormalities. On the other hand, paranormal investigation believes that these were formed by UFOs. It must be noted, however, that there are circles known to be made by men and a group of circle makers who call themselves as Circlemakers.org.
At present, the study of UFOs known as Ufology has attracted worldwide interest as more and more people are coming out with their opinions regarding the subject. Several social networks about paranormal activity have been created to allow people who have the common interest in the supernatural to interact and share stories about their encounters with ghosts and aliens. Globalufospace.com is one such social network. In this site, members can share their opinions and even their UFO videos.

Looking for a place to share your hobbies and passions? Have you ever tried the forum groups on the large social network sites? Chances are the overcrowded environments have overwhelmed you. There is still hope if you are seeking to build your own online community. You can create your own free forum.

Free forums, in the form of phpbb forums are a proven social networking platform and are easy to setup. Phpbb forums started as basically online discussion web sites where people share information and chat grouped around a set of topics, but through the use of “mods” have evolved to become much more robust platforms.

Be sure to look for some key features such as

Captcha – This is that fun word challenge to prevent automated spam bots from registering and making a mess out of your forum. While it is not full proof, it can make a sizable difference in the amount of spam you have.

Email activation – Don't let someone signup without first getting them to validate their email address. Again this is just one more way of preventing the spammers from making a mess of your website.

Logo Uploading – It isn't much fun to have your own phpbb forum if you have to stare at the phpbb logo all the time.

Subdomains – unless you want ugly urls, register with a site that offers free subdomains so that you can have an easy to share url. An example of this would be SOMETHING.attheforum.com.

Themes – Don't get stuck with boring sub-silver, look for sites that offer a wide range of themes. Make your site look like it is your site.

Attachments – This can be both a plus and negative feature. While it can be great to be able to upload and share file and pictures, it can be a spammers dream. They may use it to upload their advertisements or offensive content. If you have this feature, be warned, it can drive people away if you have problems.

Global Announcements – Don't make people dig to get the latest news, put some information up front and center. Alert them to events, contests, special deals, etc.

Word Blocking – While not perfect, it can go a long way in preventing your site from going from a G rating to R or worse. It is also helpful in blocking advertising from spammers for the latest wonder drugs.

Control – This is the most important thing to the success of a forum. As the administrator for the forum, you can control who joins and how stays. You are not alone though. You can promote people to be moderators or even an administrator just like yourself. Moderators have the ability to block people being offensive, abusive, or just plain rude. It is your site, you can set the standards, and enforce the standards. I would recommend though you reserve the administrator role to only your most trusted friends, you and yourself.

Don't get lost in the crowd, create you own social network. Phpbb is great for your local community groups, clubs, organizations, friends and family.
