[M200]Mamma Mia The Musical
by Kelly Renaul, Kel
The musical of Mamma Mia has been a favorite of Broadway lovers ever since the 1990s, and Meryl Streep herself has been a fan of the show. She had seen the show and sent a letter to the cast and crew telling them how much she enjoyed it. A short time later, she was asked to star as Donna in the upcoming film. It was a similar path to the movie for Pierce Brosnan, who had seen the show on Broadway with his family. Reportedly, Brosnans father had recently passed away; his name was Sam Carmichael. When Pierce Brosnan was asked to play Sam Carmichael in Mamma Mia the movie, he states he couldnt refuse and couldnt help but notice the serendipity of playing a character by the same name, Sam Carmichael. He also has stated that he couldnt turn down the chance to work side by side with Meryl Streep, either!
