[L552]Los Angeles Lakers Baby
by John Sern, Joh
The LA Lakers clearly have something on their mind. With a 18-3 win loss record, excellent considering the league standards, they definitely do not need to do a lot of running. All they have to do is just play their normal game, and the championship would soon be theirs. Then, what is the point with Kobe Bryant making noises about the fact that they need to improve? Worse still, he is thinking of benchmarking himself against the Boston team that recently beat them.

To the naked eye, it seems to be a wrong approach. The only reason for that is - It is a game after all, and wins and losses are a part of this game. Why should a team get overly worried when it is being beaten? And if that's the case, why only the Boston! Even the Kings beat the Lakers! If Kobe is really serious about what he seems to be saying, he should have factored in the Kings for the benchmarking exercise.

Maybe the poor record of Kings did not warrant him to think on those lines. But think about it for a moment - How many teams have been able to improve themselves in the past looking at the other team's performance? At the end of the day, when you go out on the field, you play because of your strengths and weaknesses. You score points and you block because you have it in you to do so. In such a scenario, Kobe's comments may seem to be ambitious, but get reading between the lines, and you could realize the folly of his comments.

To most experts, these comments coming from one of the more senior players in the team seems to be unwarranted. First things first, experts believe that the Lakers should look at the mistakes they committed in their losses to Boston and the Kings, at least. The Kings game seems to be worth mentioning here because the Kings anyways did not have a good outing in the league before the game. If they could hit the Lakers hard with sustained pressure, it obviously points a thing or two about the Lakers' defense line.

Secondly, each team has its style of playing. To that regard, the Lakers may play a completely different game to the Boston. Why would you want to monkey the style of another team? Why would you want to do that when you do not even know if your team is going to be able to adapt to the game style? Experts feel that such comments should be made by a team who is languishing at the bottom. But comments like these coming at the back of a 18-3 record, is just unacceptable - feel the experts.

Hope Kobe reworks on his words and the game of the Lakers soon!
