Using specially adapted scooters, (which have no congestion charge and don't have to queue in traffic), Aquanoughts travel between appointments, eco-washing cars at customers workplaces or homes. As they don't have to use any water, the saving on our water supply runs into hundreds of gallons a day.

The product used, is unique to Aquanought in the UK and has a simple spray-wipe-clean operation. This technology was created in America, where, in certain States, vehicles must be cleaned in special dry clean bays, because of water shortages.

The current water restrictions facing customers throughout the South East, means anybody caught cleaning their car using a hosepipe, could face a potential ?1000 fine. The hosepipe-bans follow two drier than average winters in the South East. The Environment Agency says underground water supplies and some reservoirs are well below average for the time of year.

Up to thirteen million people will be affected by the restrictions. However, everyday car wash companies can continue to use high pressure jets and forecourt washes, which seems to be a contradiction of the ban. Taxi drivers, for example, find the ruling unfair, as their vehicles are classed as private cars, which cannot be cleaned with a hosepipe, yet they can be taken off the road, by the Public Carriage Officer, if they are not clean.

Transport for London, which licenses taxis and minicabs, said there would be no exemptions for dirty vehicles.

So, is the waterless car wash the answer?

One concern is that removing the dirt and grime from a car without water could scratch the paintwork. ?Not so? says Leon Hamlett, Sales and Training Manager for Aquanought Ltd. ?The special polymers in our products secret formula, lift the dirt from the surface, before it's wiped away and polished,? said Leon. ?You have to see it to believe it.?

One thing is certain, the current waste of water cannot go on indefinitely. Hosepipe bans could become a year round problem, possibly throughout the country, unless we try to reduce our dependence on this scarce natural resource.
