Richard Cotton, an activity physiologist and also spokesman for American Council on Exercise (ACE) puts it like this... "You are not going to lose fat without either doing a hefty amount of ab work - which is a waste of time and is unnecessary too or by doing some type of aerobic event."
And by all means, if you still are doubting this, go ahead and give it a try - 2 weeks of ab workouts compared to 2 weeks of aerobic workout - and return to me in 4 weeks time and say to me how you have fared.
In the end the abs are no different than other type of muscle group and because of this they also perform in a similar fashion. With this in mind, would you do 100 bicep curls all together? I hope not.
In this scenario why would you consider doing 100 ab crunches? The point being, if you try to work on the one group of muscles your results are going to be a lot superior with considerably less effort also.
Having said all this, the key point to maintain in mind is that to have a six pack or a nice shapely tummy, you need to focus in advance of everything else, on losing the subcutaneous fat. If you do manage to do this then managing to achieve great looking abs becomes very possible indeed by doing a good ab work out!
