First off, a dropshipper is a company that has an online or paper catalog that you can order from and anonymously ship these products to your customers. You don't have to stock the product, pack the product or even see it at all. Just take the order from your customers and the dropshipper fulfills them.

I've sold 1,000's of different products totaling over $10 million in just a handful of years. I know this business VERY well and know about dropshippers. Many get rich quick websites praise dropshippers as a gold mine. They give you a list of the best dropshippers so you'll sign-up with them and then THEY get a commission from your sign-up. I'm not telling you to sign-up with dropshippers and I will give you my unbiased facts about them. I don't care what ANYONE has to say about dropshippers. Here's the truth!

There's one big problem with dropshippers and it's such a big problem that I never wasted my time with them. It's called PRICE! If everyone on the internet, ebay, and stores are selling something for $50, and the dropshipper sells it to you for $40, what kind of money are you making? That's only 20% per sale for a retail item. Even wholesalers make at least 50% profit per sale. This price also limits you in terms of what you can sell your product for. You're stuck selling these items at a set price, any lower and you'd be losing money on them. Why should someone buy from you instead of one of the other 1,000 or more websites if you're all charging the same price?

"But a lot of people are doing it," you might say. "One dropshipper has 20,000 members." Just because someone has a member doesn't mean they're buying from them. I signed up with a couple of drop shippers then never went back after I saw the prices. Some offer free memberships. Plus technically, 20,000 active members isn't a "good thing," even if it were true. That means there are 20,000 people who are selling exactly what you are.

The dropshipper websites goal is for you to think that you can at least make $10 per item and you don't have to do any work other than find the buyer and order the items from the dropshipper. Sell 1,000 items and make $10,000 part time. That sounds great if it could work. It might if the products these dropshippers offered weren't so general. There are at least 1,000 different people/stores selling the exact same general items that these dropshippers offer. And many get the products for far less than the dropshippers offer so they can lower their prices or offer coupons.

And lastly, let's say they do somehow get a new hot product. How long will it be hot when all of the people using the dropshippers make these hot items available everywhere? Not long.

I would say technically you can make some money with dropshippers, but obviously not as much as you would if you got your products wholesale from a manufacturer. Dropshippers might be good for someone looking to make a couple hundred dollars, but I GUARANTEE YOU will make far more money if you get the products yourself at wholesale prices. It's only common sense.

Based on my experience -- that is, what I've done -- you need 4 things to start a successful internet business. Your total start up cost will be about $150. This list assumes that you're using the easiest beginner's method of becoming a Clickbank affiliate to start your internet marketing business.

The four things you'll need to start you on the path to internet marketing success are a domain name, a landing page, a hosting account, and an autoresponder. Today, let's talk about why you need these things. Then next time we'll look at what each thing does for you.

Obviously, you can do affiliate marketing without any of these tools. You can simply drive traffic to your product's sales page using your affiliate link. But this does nothing to build your internet marketing business. Using this method, you are constantly in search of new customers. And, you have no relationship with any of your customers. They are all one-time buyers.

Your goal for your online business should be to build a list of lifetime customers. The best way to do this is to develop a relationship of trust with your customers. You can only do this if you know who your customers are and they know who you are.

As you can see, none of these four tools have anything to do with traffic generation. I did say last time that one of the biggest reasons it is near impossible to make money online with no investment is that it takes lots of time and lots of effort to generate traffic using the free methods.

But, both your time and effort are dramatically reduced if you use the free traffic methods and build your list at the same time, as these four tools allow you to do. No longer are you constantly searching for the new customer to make a one-time sale to.

Instead, once your traffic generation pays off, and you have a customer, she is no longer just a one- time buyer. You have her name and email. You have her request to send her information. You know she's interested in what you're offering -- she opted-in to your list.

Making additional sales to an established customer is a walk in the park compared to the effort it takes to acquire a new customer. As your list begins to grow, the money begins to come in faster and with less effort. Because of this, I recommend that you spend your money in the beginning building a list, not on paid traffic generation methods. Your list building tools are far less expensive. They are easier to use. When you start making some money you can direct your attention to the paid traffic methods. If you want to. If you need to.

But first let's just concentrate on getting one customer, showing that customer she can trust you, and marketing quality products to her. It will be so much easier to sell ten products to this one customer than it will be to sell one product to ten customers. You'll be amazed.
