I didn't believe it until I started making sales every day.

Let's go back a few years and see what I mean.

I first started trying to sell products online about 10 years ago. I can still remember the big sensation then was something called "Internet Cash Machines" or ICM for short.

Basically, the product was what I refer to as a "replicator" product. You had to pay $29 or so and what you got was a website that you had to upload to a server and then just "replicate" or duplicate the same page you had purchased from.

Since that time, there have been literally thousands of these "replicator" type products produced. Step one is to buy, step 2 is to download, step 3 is to upload the site to a server, and then wait for sales.

And the "wait for sales" part is where all of these products fail.

You cannot "wait" for sales. They will never happen. You have to do something to drive traffic to your website so that people will see it and have a chance to buy your product.

When I figured that part out, I discovered PPC advertising. You put ads on search engines and only pay when people click on them. When the prospect clicks, he or she is taken directly to your website.

At first, I made a few sales - I was so excited. After a day or two, I checked my PPC account and found out that I had spent TWO TIMES what I had made.

Wait a minute... I was trying to make a profit here, not lose my shirt.

So, I had to go back to the drawing board.

And after some long researching and testing, I discovered the "holy grail" of internet marketing and sales. I'm even going to tell you what it is... ready?

The Big Secret: an audience

What? That's it? Yep - in a nutshell, that's it. That's the secret of getting sales online over and over.

Here is what I mean: you can sell sand to people who live in the desert if you constantly "pitch" the ones who are interested in sand. At some point, someone will buy.

If you have an "audience" for your product and you "pitch" the product to an audience that is already interested, you will make sales. It's that simple.

So where does this audience come from? That's another topic I'll save for my next article. Stay tuned!

The internet is filled with a plethora of opportunities for entrepreneurs to pursue. As long as there is public appeal for the business you are interested in, you can have success with it. And believe me when I say there is interest for just about anything imaginable.

There is no point in wasting your time doing something you absolutely cannot stand doing. You will find yourself putting forth little effort because you have no interest in it. However, doing something you enjoy can make a tremendous difference in your effort and your rewards.

By doing something you enjoy, you are going to be far more willing to put in extra hours. You will look at it more as a hobby than an actual job. This extra effort will go a long ways toward increasing your traffic volume and your overall sells.

Think of it as watching the football game on a Sunday afternoon or cooking a nice meal. Work should not be a hassle; it should be something you cannot wait to do. And with the internet, you will always be striving to further your business. There is no peak that you can reach and top out your business. No matter how successful your business gets, you can always expand on it and take it a step further. This is enough motivation in itself.

In addition to investing more time into the job, you will also find yourself taking the time to research and learn the new parts to the job. Every day there is something new with every niche imaginable. If you want to stay ahead of your competitors, you have to know what is new and be able to offer it to your customers.

Lastly, typically you pick up on things much quicker if you enjoy it and have an interest in it. For whatever reason, it is much easier to learn something when you have a passion for it. Instead of wasting months trying to figure out a new business opportunity on the internet, you can spend more time promoting your new business and making money on the internet. There is no point in getting involved with something you have no knowledge of whatsoever.

There are countless reasons why you can and should make money on the internet with something you have an interest in. You will be more willing to invest the extra time needed with your business, you will be able to pick up on things quicker, and you probably will already have some knowledge in the niche. These are just a few reasons why you should look at something you enjoy to get involved with today.
