[A837]Average Days Of Sunshine
by Gaizka Pujana, Gai
The Malaga vacation resort is easily accessible for tourists via an international airport. Apart from the presence of the sunshine the city's major claim to fame is being the birthplace of famous artist Pablo Picasso whose work made a big impact on twentieth century world art. For those who would like to have a break from the sunshine and beach and would prefer to bask in a little bit of culture, Malaga's Picasso Museum could be the perfect venue.

Museo Picasso Malaga

Years later than other places in the world, a museum containing Picasso works has been opened in Malaga. This great artist was born in 1881 in Malaga and had a lifelong desire for his works of art to be shown in the city of his birth. In order to fulfill this wish, the museum was established thanks to donations of his works from members of the family and today contains 204 works in the permanent collection. The Picasso Museum was officially opened on October 27 2003. The exhibitions inside the museum include many of his paintings, sketches, sculptures, drawings, engravings and ceramics. These works present fine examples of Picasso's life time pieces of art and career.

The Picasso Museum is housed in an attractive building that was originally known as the Palacio de Buenavista. This palace was built in the fifteenth century and it is believed that it was constructed on top of the remnants of a Nasrid palace. There are some features of this ancient construction that can still be seen today, an example of which is the tower located in the courtyard. The rich history surrounding the building seems to be an appropriate home for the Picasso Museum and complements his works perfectly.

The Museum is open on Tuesdays to Thursdays from 10 am to 8 pm. On Fridays and Saturdays, the Museum is open from 10am to 9 pm. On Sundays and public holidays, the Museum is open from 10am to 8 pm. Opening hours on December 24th and December 31st are from 10am to 3 pm. It should be noted that the Museum is closed on Mondays, December 25th and January 1st.

Hotel accommodation and vacation rentals in Malaga are available to suit a variety of budgets. In addition, it should be noted that is easy to reach the Picasso Museum from wherever a traveler decides to stay within the city of Malaga. Travelers should bear in mind that they may not enter the Museum wearing just swimwear.

All in all, Malaga provides a great vacation location. The sunshine and sandy shores are sure to be enjoyed. However, the Picasso Museum offers a pleasant and cultural step into art history. After all, Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga.
