The average allergy and asthma sufferer experiences a multitude of allergy symptoms including sneezing and watery eyes. These symptoms are aggravating and may cause major discomfort. If only you knew what was causing such symptoms? There is no easy way to tell what allergen you are allergic to but there are some common allergy triggers that you may want to avoid to curb your symptoms. Below is a list of typical triggers that may be causing you your daily discomfort.
Mold and mildew can sometimes be found in bathroom and basements. It is found in these areas because mold and mildew thrive in humidity. To prevent mold from appearing in your household it is suggested that you purchase a dehumidifier.A dehumidifier will extract the moisture from the air essentially depriving the mold and mildew of their basic need of moisture. It is also important to remove houseplants and foam pillows from the household because mold and mildew grow in such places as well.
A microscope is necessary to see one of the biggest allergy-culprits in the world. Dust mites are extremely small yet cause a heck of a lot of trouble. It is not the actual dust mites that cause allergy symptoms; it is a protein in their feces. Since there are literally millions of dust mites in the average house and the average dust mites defecates 10 times a day, you are literally living in a house full of feces. Many people wonder how so many dust mites are capable of living in a household if they are not being fed. You may not intentionally feed dust mites but every minute of every day you do. How? Dust mites feed off of your dead skin that you shed everyday. A single days shed is enough food for thousands of dust mites. So how is it possible to get rid of millions of dust mites you can't see? It is a very difficult task, however there are ways you can reduce the amount of dust mites in your home.
One way you can reduce the amount of dust mites in your bed is by replacing covers with allergen-proof covers. To help ensure dust mites do not enter your new pillow it is important you tape your zipper or opening.
Dust mites are very sensitive to extreme temperatures. To help rid your bedding of these nasty creepy-crawlers you should wash your bedding in extremely hot water or boiling water. If you have delicate bedding you may want to freeze your bedding for about a day to kill of the mites and then brush off your bedding. It is recommended you do this about once every week.
Remove carpeting if possible. Dust Mites thrive in carpeting because they can latch deep into the carpet fibers where they are away from sunlight (Which they hate). Did You Know? - There may be millions of dust mites in just a square foot of carpeting!
Dust mites attach to the root of the carpet fiber to avoid sunlight. If removing your carpeting is not an option it is important that you vacuum your house everyday. Vacuuming your carpeting will vibrate the carpet fibers and pick up many of the dust mites in your carpeting. Also try to keep a dust-free home, since dust is the main food source for dust mites.
Chemicals and strong smells from colognes, deodorizers and more may cause you to sniffle and sneeze. It is important that you keep using such products to a minimum and try using them outdoors instead of inside to avoid breathing in stagnant chemical-filled air.
Odors, Perfumes, Dust Mites, Mold and Mildew may all stimulate allergy symptoms. By following the simple steps above you may curb the amount of symptoms you have daily. Many people are unaware of the allergen that causes them to sneeze and cough, but hopefully following these simple steps will help you breathe easy.
