[G283]Give A Man A Fish
by Donovan Baldwin, Don
There's an old saying which you may have heard. "Give a man a fish and you have fed him for today. Teach a man HOW to fish and he can feed himself for the rest of his life."

My wife brought up a very good point today. I have written essays, articles, and poetry for years. I write what I enjoy writing and write about what I want to write about, and write it in my own unique and personal style.

Nothing wrong with that, but, when it comes to articles on business, marketing, internet businesses, etc., I have missed an entire audience. As my wife pointed out, I have always written at a certain level, and, at that level, I always assumed a certain knowledge or experience in the people I was writing for or to. I'm not talking about intelligence. I'm talking about knowledge and experience.

That's how I have missed my audience! If you are already knowledgeable about internet marketing or network marketing, let's say, you can read my article, agree with it, disagree with it, comment on it, and, maybe even get an insight or piece of information that you didn't already know.

However, what about the person with NO experience or real knowledge of internet or network marketing? My entire article, my carefully contrived web of words and masterful turn of phrase, my recital of personal experiences is meaningless to this person! They have no clue, or only a vague conception, of what I am talking about.

Additionally, the experienced individual probably already has some sort of internet business with which they are involved. If they take anything away after reading my article, they are going to apply it to THEIR BUSINESS! I may get a thank-you. I may get an award, but, I DON'T GET THEIR BUSINESS because they already have one.

On the other hand, if my article is structured and designed to provide useful information to the individual who has not yet learned about how to market things on the internet, and if I include basic, yet helpful information to that individual, I now have a reader who not only wishes to read more of what I have written, but who will follow my guidance in the selection of an internet or network marketing business...probably in my downline.

Now, not only do I have a new recruit in my business, but this is someone who is motivated to follow my lead, willingly accepting the guidance and training I offer.

There are many principles which have been around a long time in the recruiting of new people into network marketing, but I'll just mention three here.

First, you can get people's attention and draw their interest to your business opportunity by offering something of value for free.

Second, you need to be able to train the new recruit.

Third, they are more likely to be successful if you can provide a system which can be duplicated, even by the inexperienced! Well, suppose you (or I) have written a series of interesting, informative and instructional articles aimed at inexperienced people and we give these articles to them for free. These articles form the basis of the training of these people, and, once they are part of our downline, we can continue their training through additional articles. We can also begin to provide them access to those tools or programs we have found to be of value in this second phase of their training. Finally, we can give them the packet of training materials that we have provided to them so that they can begin recruiting THEIR downlines by offering this material for free in order to draw attention to their business.

Sounds like we are on the verge of creating a "perpetual motion machine" of sorts. Wouldn't that be great?

As Spock would say, "Fascinating."

Many of the ebook sellers on the internet are selling Resale Rights ebooks simply because they do not know how to create their own product. So, my quote would be: "Give a man an ebook to sell and he makes money for a day. Teach a man to create his own ebooks and he will make money for a lifetime."

One sad misconception about ebook creation is: "Writing an ebook is no fun". Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, creating ebooks is fun. It is fun to be writing about something which you are passionate about. It is fun to find out more things about your chosen subject by conducting research. If you think you know your subject inside out and you discover something - or several things - you didn't know previously (this happens), you will be richer in knowledge. That's fun.

If you have a slight interest in a topic, and you think others may be interested, you could conduct some research and, who knows, you may glean enough knowledge to be able to write several ebooks. Hey, that's a topic in itself - research. Try finding information on research techniques, write a short report or guide, and share them with others.

As you can see, whilst writing, other ideas will come to you. This is one of the reasons I enjoy writing.

There are several ways in which you can start your ebook creating and I have outlined just six of these. I think you will find them interesting in the fact that they will help your ebook writing and will definitely help boost your sales and online revenue.

1. It helps if you pick several related topics.

If your subject is fishing, say, you could choose a method of fishing as one topic and another method of fishing as another topic. For instance, how to catch one type of fish and then how to catch another type. This would all come under the fishing category. You could do the same for internet marketing - article marketing, video marketing, traffic generation, etc. All would come under the category of IM. Your research would be applicable to all versions and it will augment your creations.

2. Create sequels to your ebooks.

Following on from No.1, your research will allow you to create sequels to your ebooks easily. Since online readers just love reading short ebooks or reports (20-30 pages) you can easily create these. If your ebook is huge, say 50-60 pages or more, cut it in half and give the other half a new title or simply put part 2 on the title.

As time progresses, your ebook will go out of date as new techniques come into play. Since your initial research will be the same (I hope you have saved it somewhere), you will just have to add the new bits and re-shuffle.

3.Stay focused.

This is a vital piece of information. You should learn how to avoid distractions as this can play havoc with your train of thought. Try to find a place you can write where you will have nobody disturbing you. Don't have your TV on, turn on the answering machine and definitely don't go on the internet unless you are conducting research. There is nothing more distracting than getting emails or IM conversations. I like to go to the library with my notepad. With no distractions you will become more productive.

4. Use an outline.

It is very easy to get lost in the process of writing an ebook and when you get lost, it is so easy to give up the whole idea. This is a great time to talk about using an outline to organize your thoughts. Write down, on paper, the structure you want your ebook to be in. Jot down some notes for each section and refer to them. Not only will this ensure you have a nice flow to your content, it will also help you to write faster.

5. Consider hiring some help.

If you get stuck writing, there is no shame in asking for help. Visit the various freelancing sites and hire a competent ghostwriter. This will be for a fee, of course. Make sure the person you hire is an expert in your chosen field so they are able to offer your readers with valuable, informative and useful content.

6. Proofread and revise later.

Your creative juices are flowing. Your thoughts are clear and you know exactly what to put in writing. To maintain this creativity, avoid proofreading while you are writing. Only review your work once you have completed it. When your ebook is finished, this will be the perfect time to eliminate any errors in your content. You will also be able to improve the general flow of your ideas. For the final proofreading, it is wise to get somebody else to check your work over. Fresh eyes will pick up any mistakes you may have missed.
