Built in the late 18th century, the inn has remained a public house/B&B since it was first built. Research tells us that it's cellar, which is split into many rooms, was used as a holding area for prisoners when they were being brought down to the courthouses in London.
Katherine decided that we should carry out an investigation in this building when she found out that a lot of the prisoners who were held in the cellars never seemed to leave alive. The current owners of the inn told Katherine of some of the paranormal activity that kept them awake at night.
Glasses being thrown off tables, people seeing shadows, tables and chairs being moved in the night, but the thing that interested the team the most, ghostly screams being heard from down in the cellar. The workers at the inn refuse to go down there alone AND often don't go down there at all in the evenings.
The team turned up and began our initial investigations into the workings of the building. We placed a glass in the middle of table in the bar area and around it laid some flour. Hopefully when we returned later on in the evening the glass would have been moved. We also placed some motion detectors in the hallway going from the bar to the cellar area to catch anything that may move through beams.
We brought Annabel in to give us her initial opinions of the inn. Walking into the bar, Annabel felt the residual energy of the past 300 years that still accumulated in the building. She told us of people and noises, the smell of ale, and laughing.
She found it very hard to concentrate here, as began to tell us something, just before she stopped. Annabel asked to leave for a few minutes to get some fresh air. This was something we had never seen before, and were quite shocked by her reaction.
After ten minutes outside, she returned and began to tell us about the energies in the building and how earlier she was about to speak, when somebody whispered in her ear "Those that will be judged will be done so here."
She saw a very strong image of a man tied up to a pole as he was being whipped to death. This image had been so vivid that Annabel had to go outside and take a breather to clear her mind.
The ghost image was now returning again. The voice she heard had come from one of the patrons at the inn. She picked up on the name 'Robert'. The criminals were brought here to be held overnight, and many soldiers paid Robert to kill the prisoners during the night. This way, the soldiers could return home earlier than expected, and they would still be paid. Robert was very skilled in his killing of these men.

Often people enter into things they have not the means to ccomplish, with the result that they cheat others to attain their own ends. Then there is in all things the time factor to be taken into consideration; what at one time might be a failure, would perhaps at another time be a very great success.
The householder must speak the truth, and speak gently, using words which people like, which will do good to others; nor should he talk of the business of other men.
The householder by digging tanks, by planting trees on the roadsides, by establishing rest - houses for men and animals, by making roads and building bridges, goes towards the same goal as the greatest Yogi.
This is one part of the doctrine of Karma-Yoga -- activity, the duty of the householder. There is a passage later on, where it says that "if the householder dies in battle, fighting for his country or his religion, he comes to the same goal as the Yogi by meditation," showing thereby that what is duty for one is not duty for another. At the same time, it does not say that this duty is lowering and the other elevating. Each duty has its own place, and according to the circumstances in which we are placed, must we perform our duties.
One idea comes out of all this -- the condemnation of all weakness. This is a particular idea in all our teachings which I like, either in philosophy, or in religion, or in work. If you read the Vedas, you will find this word always repeated -- fearlessness -- fear nothing. Fear is a sign of weakness. A man must go about his duties without taking notice of the sneers and the ridicule of the world.
