While there are many and varied definitions for tarot cards, there are some standard guides to follow for generally unified definitions. In the late 19th century, the Order of the Golden Dawn updated ancient tarot decks in an attempt to establish conformity that fairly represented the vast diversity of the tarot tradition. It is from this modern work of cards that the following definitions are drawn. The Fool: Associated with fertility and the primal energy of spring with connotations of birth, rebirth and transformation, the Fool represents making a new start to life. The Magician: Full of trickeries, the Magician is a wheeler and dealer; he says one thing but means another. He is known to be a thief, but just what he is stealing remains a mystery. High Priestess: Change and movement dominate this card. It also represents female intuition. The Empress: Representative of every kind of love, the Empress symbolizes fertility, growth, and caring. The Emperor: This is the alpha male with all its insinuations of dominance, immaturity, impulsive behavior and a lack of respect for authority. The Heirophant: Dogmatic and traditional, this card represents a benevolent teacher. The Lovers: Beyond the obvious implications of love and romance, this card is really about choice - is this really what is wanted? The Lovers highlights doubt or hesitation regarding a situation. The Chariot: Travel and change define this card. It is all about control that will result in getting what is wanted. It also defines a defense of what is wanted. Strength: This card typically means passion - passion for life, passion for love, work, and play. The Star: This card is card generally indicates that dreams and aspirations will come true. There is a sense of well being and confidence in the definition of the Star. It points to success in life. The Sun: Wealth, success, and happiness define this card. The Moon: Deception, chaos and confusion dominate the meaning of this card. These things can have benefits as well as cast doubts as this card indicates that secrets will be kept secret. Judgment: The definition of the Judgment card is that of conclusion. Resolution of a situation is expected when this card is revealed. The World: This card signifies that upon resolution of a situation, moving to a new place, either literally moving to a new location, or figuratively moving to a new stage in life, is next.
If you have ever seen a psychic reading on television or at a fun fair, chances are the psychic will appear to you as a witch-like kind of lady with crystal balls and tarot cards. For sure, the crystal balls and tarot cards are fun to watch. They make the psychic reading more real and tangible. After all, whatever comes from the psychic may be questioned but whatever comes from the spiritual plane must surely be true without question. For these reasons, some psychics like to put on a performance for their audience, luring them into believing that their visions or prophecies must be true, since it's coming from the crystal balls or the tarot cards.
But bear in mind that regardless of what information comes from the psychic, it's the psychic who speaks, and not the crystal balls or the tarot cards. Those are just tools to help the psychic keep their concentration. Tarot cards provide a more systematic reading. And that is all that the cards do: provide a system.
True psychics can perform accurate readings with or without tarot cards. Sometimes, tarot cards may even get into the way of accurate readings. For instance, a psychic may sense that the seeker has a throat problem. She tells the seeker about the problem. But what if the seeker asks, "How do you know? Where is the seeker card? Show me!" So if the powers truly lies in the cards, then perhaps the psychic may be able to produce the card. But the truth is, the power lies within the psychic. So with the tarot cards spread out on the table, and none of it is the "throat" card, then the reading becomes less convincing.
Therefore, not all psychics like to use tarot cards when performing readings. But that doesn't make them less powerful. In fact, as long as they are able to provide accurate readings, they are genuine psychics. After all, a true reading is not about getting an entertaining performance from some gypsy woman wearing a scarf and holding a crystal ball. It's about seeking useful advice so that one can overcome one's problems in life. So there is no need to seek a flowery performance. A down to earth, one to one talk will be more beneficial.
Bear in mind that psychic reading sessions operate very much like psycho therapy sessions - you are charged based on time. Usually, you purchase blocks of time (in minutes) for your psychic reading appointment. Every minute counts, so make sure that you are well prepared for the reading. If it's the first reading, don't just offer too much information about yourself up front. Start asking questions immediately. If you are sitting in front of a true psychic, the psychic will know without you having to explicitly inform him or her. In fact, the best psychics want to surprise you. That's because if you remain a skeptic, you will continue to fight everything that the psychic has to tell you. And that's not a good thing because advice gone unheeded is just a waste of time and energy.
So tarot cards or no tarot cards, be sure to seek advice only from true psychics.
