[F937]Fun Baby Shower Game
by Stephanie Smith, Ste
The first types of games that could be played at a baby shower to get people to interact with one another are those that are referred to as ice breakers. These games allow those who may not know many others to relax and meet new people. Ice breakers should be played throughout the duration of the shower with the prizes awarded at the end of the party. Here are two type of games that are sure to get everyone in on the fun.

Say "Baby"!

With this interactive game have someone hand out a small item such as an appropriately colored button or ribbon as they arrive at the party. Each time a guest hears someone say the word "baby" they are allowed to take that person's ribbon or button for their own collection. But the game doesn't end for the person whose object was taken, they in turn can always take someone else's if they hear them say the key word! This way the game continues to the end of the shower, no one is ever "out" and the person with the most objects collected at the end of the event wins the prize.

Whodunnit...?

Another popular ice breaking game (this one is popular in many settings, not just at baby showers) is the Whodunnit game. Guests are given a list with a selection of items on it, such as "Has green eyes", or "has more than three siblings". Guests then go around and try to fill out their sheets with the signatures of other guests who fit those categories.

Party Games: With some of the introductions and socializing over, it is time to get down to a couple of party games. Really, you can play any kind of party game you wish, but in keeping with the theme of the day try to incorporate some ideas that evoke baby shower imagery. Get creative and try to come up with games which aren't typical of some of the baby showers you have attended. If you don't have any ideas of where to start then try the ideas listed below.

Pictionary

This popular group game is easily adaptable to a baby shower theme. Guests should be divided into equal teams and be given words related to babies and pregnancy to draw for their teammates to guess. All it takes is a marker, a large pad of paper, a dry-erase board or even a chalkboard for the fun to begin. This type of game is a great way for people to make new friends and can also be a fun learning experience.

Baby Scattergories

This fun and easy game is also simple to adapt to a baby shower theme. Think of baby-related categories such as popular baby names, brands of diapers, or essential baby care items. Now pick some relatively simple letters for guests to think of a word beginning with that letter for each of the listed categories within a set amount of time. After time is up, all duplicate words are eliminated and the guest left with the most words is the big winner.

Baby showers are a fun time for the mother-to-be and all of her friends. Take the time to make everyone feel included and above all else, make the baby shower fun! No one wants to attend a dull shower, so make this one a shower to remember.

Some of the most important and memorable experiences of a baby shower are the baby-themed games that are characteristic of the American baby shower. Games and activities make up a big part of the fun and excitement in the celebration that will welcome your new coming baby into the world. When it comes to picking the right games for your shower, be sure to center your activities on the overall theme of the party. Consider the number of guests that have been invited, your budget, and the location of the baby shower, in order to choose the games that will be best suited for your event. Creating a combination of traditional, timeless games and new, original activities is always a good way to go to add festivity to the segment of the shower whereby Mom opens up all the newborn gifts.
Games can be classic and general, or more specific and tied to your theme. One of the most universal baby shower games that everyone seems to love is called "Dont Say Baby." At the beginning of the baby shower, each guest is given a string with a pacifier on it, which he or she ties on his or her neck as a necklace. Throughout the course of the baby shower, nobody is allowed to say the word, "baby." Whoever slips and says "baby," risks losing their pacifier; any person who hears someone say the forbidden word is entitled to take their pacifier and add it to their necklace. Even when she opens up a newborn baby gift, no one can exclaim how neat the baby gift is. At the end of the baby shower, whoever collects the most pacifiers on their necklace is the winner of the game.
Another good classic activity is "Guess Mommys Belly Size." For this game, you will need yarn or string, and a pair of scissors. Each guest proceeds to pull and cut the yarn or string to the size they believe that the mommys tummy is. After everyone has estimated the size of the mommy-to-bes stomach, measure the actual size of the belly, and cut the string or yarn to match that length. The person whose string is the closest in size to the string that was cut to mommys real tummy measurement is the winner.
A fun and amusing game that is always a hit in baby showers is a "Blindfolded Baby Food Race." In this game, you will need a few volunteers to act as the "mommies" in this game, and matching pairs to act as "babies." Mommies will be blindfolded and the babies will sit on their laps. When the clock starts, the blindfolded mommies have to feed the babies as quickly and efficiently as they can. To make the activity more pleasant for the "baby" volunteers, it is important to purchase yummy, fruit-flavored baby foods. Otherwise, your guests will be making funny faces as they try to gulp down peas and asparagus flavored puree. The mommy-and-baby team that finishes the fastest is the winning pair.
Games add fun, spirit, and laughs to your celebration that are sure to make lifetime memories that will never be forgotten. Be sure to get small gifts for the winners of the games with anticipation. The prizes that you buy for the event are completely up to you, depending on your shower theme and budget. Whatever the case may be, be sure to make the game-planning and prize-choosing process enjoyable and fun! The whole event, including games, food and opening all the unique baby gifts for the new little prince should be a memorable one for everyone.
