[F897]Friendly Ways To Organize Your Life
by Hal Stevens, Hal

At our best, many of us have a hard time organizing our thoughts. It's not something we regularly do. When we talk with friends, family, coworkers and strangers, we very often just say what we're thinking (hopefully with a little self-editing as the words come out of our mouths). The occasion to sit down and systematize our thoughts is a rare one. So, the process can seem a little overwhelming—especially at a time when our thoughts are naturally all over the place.

The following tips will help you organize your thoughts so that you can craft a solid, meaningful and concise eulogy.

1. Gather as much information and facts about the life of the deceased as possible. Make sure that the information is accurate. Write each fact down in a list—in chronological order so that you can refer to it easily. Be sure the dates are correct and that you include anything of importance such as time and place of birth, schooling date of marriage(s), birthdates of children and grandchildren, career-related information and residences.

2. Consider your purpose. Write down what you are trying to accomplish with this eulogy. Is it a celebration of the life the person led? If, so, make sure you stay within your purpose as you are writing.

3. Make a few notes of important times in the life of the deceased. Include times you shared and times that you weren't a part of, but knew about.

4. On a separate page, make a note of how you are feeling if you get overwhelmed or emotional. Sometimes naming a feeling helps you deal with it better.

Even with your thoughts carefully organized and a roadmap set for writing the eulogy, it can still be a frightening task. If you just take a few minutes to follow these guidelines you will see that there is nothing to be intimidated by, your eulogy will be perfect.

And through collecting your thoughts in an organized way you can facilitate everything important to you. Efficiency will help you not lose precious moments of time due to a lack of organization and preparation.

There are 3 major areas of life in which you will experience the pressures and frustrations of being disorganized, or the freedom and flexibility of being well organized.

Consider that the physical realm of your life involves the people, environment, and things like your health, security and financial situation

The 2nd realm is the emotional part of your life, involving your happiness or moments of depression. Being organized gives you the emotional freedom to be at peace as much as humanly possible.

Third is the mental realm. To mentally organize your thinking. This area involves your mental abilities of learning, questioning, reasoning, etc. All vital to be able to really organize things properly.

We can also break our lifestyle into 3 ranges. The following 3 exercises help you control those 3 ranges whilst improving awareness of the 3 realms.

A. Short Range: 10 Minute Get-On-Track. At times we get off track, whether practically, or with our efficiency, or emotionally. At those times, it is wise to do a 10 Minute Get-on-track review which is simply sitting down for about 10 minutes and going through the 7 Steps Of Organizing writing out everything that is pressing or weighing on your mind about your life right at this time.

B. Medium Range: Weekend Review to Organize Life. Take an hour or so at the weekend to review the past week and plan for the coming week.

Weekly reviews are one of the things that when you make a habit of it, can have a dramatic lasting effect on how organized your entire life becomes.

And don't let your brain trick you into missing this important technique. Yes it can be extremely hard work to think of all the messy details of how things are going and attempting to put it all in order. But don't let your brain get away with chickening out.

"Brain, for the next hour, it's you and me bucko!" Like in the 10 minute review, sit quietly with pen and paper, or at your computer, and just work through the 7 Steps Of Organizing. Direct your thoughts to considering 'your life in general'.

Keep your notes from week to week and review the last weeks notes when you do this weeks review. You'll surprise yourself at how much better your life is organized and the direction you are going in within just a few months.

C. Long-Range: Your Life's Big Picture. Did you know that only 3% of people write down their goals?

See how much you can write down about what's genuinely important to you. Some people go through life never really knowing. Writing these things down will probably produce some aha moments. And will also motivate you strongly to organize your life for what's important to you.

So with those three techniques you can greatly improve where your life is headed for all 3 realms of physical, mental and emotional. Again the 3 exercises are A. to review what's going on right now with a 10 minute review. B. The weekly review of last week and the coming week. And C. the long-range view with your important big goals.

Don't fret about getting it right. Just do it. Your life will easily become more organized if you spend less time worrying about it, and more time just scribbling down your thoughts so that you can later act on them at the right time.
