[G26]Games Without Downloading Them
by Zarqoo Zaimoo, Zar

It has always been said that the best things in life are free. But when it comes to downloading anything and everything you may ever think of through the World Wide Web, getting something for free from the web may not be actually the best thing you can ever come across with. Usually when you get to download something for free on the internet like a PSP game for instance, you get to experience extremely slow downloading speed that will most definitely be accompanied by ad ware, spy ware and viruses. These can actually harm your computer. These bugs can really get worse, up to the extent of calling your friendly technician within your area who will most likely cost you even more dollars for having your computer fixed. And to think that this may be from a PSP game you downloaded for free. Yes there are free downloads out there within your reach and they happen to be just one click away. However, as you undergo the process of downloading PSP games, you are putting your computer into a bigger risk. Businessmen have said that you will get what you paid for and with freebies you would get things that you wouldn't want and there's nothing you can actually do about it because you didn't pay at all.

Hold on. Do not lose your hope just like that. There are actually reliable, reasonable and safe sites which offer PSP games good enough for downloading. You will have to pay for a few dollars to get started though. They usually come in different packages. They offer a lifetime unlimited access which will allow you to download as many PSP games as you can until you get tired of it. This may cost you around $35 to $50. Though this might cost you more money, the advantages that you will earn are something that you can consume for a lifetime. This option is what I strongly recommend. If you get to really calculate things this is actually way cheaper. They also sometimes offer a two year unlimited PSP games download or you can pay for every downloading transactions you make. You also need to think of the downloading speed of the site. If the site has a very slow downloading speed you better get away from it. You don't want to wait for three or more days just to get the chance to have your new downloaded PSP game.

You would want to save money of course. But if you get to think of it, not subscribing to an online music site may require you to deal with things like ad ware, spy ware and viruses. Things like these may end up eating half of your salary just to have your computer fixed. We don't want to waste too much effort and time just because, for a day in your life you decided to become a miser and bite the tricky offer of free downloads of PSP games. Only to find out that it isn't the way they made you think it would be. These days with technology being at par with our fast paced daily lives and with scams hiding to anything that looks inviting and good, we can actually say that nothing in life is ever free.

1. University challenge

In a Brunel survey of over 200 frequent gamers, over 80% admitted that they would download games at some stage in their life. Among 15 to 18 year olds, this figure rises to nearly 84%.

The survey also revealed:

A: 72% said they would download a cracked game if they had to wait for it to be released in their own country.

B: 65% believe their chances of getting caught are low.

C: 80% find it easy to download games.

2. Downloading up

Sales of disk based PC games in the United States have fallen to $953 million from $1.5 billion since 2001. But according to data from market researcher IDC, sales of PC game downloads are likely to grow to $763 million by 2008.

In addition, mobile phone game downloads are expected to generate $7.2bn annually worldwide by 2011, increasing from $2.4bn in 2006.

3. Not a very macro vision

The Macrovision Corporation performed a gaming piracy study by surveying around 6000 console users. It claims that 21% have played pirated games, but 73% of them would have purchased the game within four weeks if the free version hadn't been available.

The study also showed that 43% of all the people who download full games did so over 15 times a year, with 74% of downloaded games coming from P2P networks, and 21% being copied from friends. 64% of game downloaders have also installed mod chips in their consoles.

In response to this survey, Macrovision stated that 'This high level of piracy on console systems is surprising'. Nothing of course, to do with the fact that Macrovision were attempting to sell their copy protection services to Microsoft and Sony.

The way the data was collected is also regarded as dubious, with subjects being selected from game review websites, pre-biasing the information to video game enthusiasts with Internet connections.

4. It takes all sorts

The typical view is that Internet gamers are predominantly made up of teenage boys, but Nielsen Entertainment's 'Active Gamer Benchmark Study' claims that 64% of online gamers are in fact women.

And while playing video games has traditionally been regarded as a solitary activity, the study shows that gamers usually spend more than five hours every week playing socially and meeting new people online.

The teenage market still dominates, totalling more than 15 million players, but around 8% are now 45 or older, helping to confirm the belief that this genre is indeed for everyone.
