[H572]Home Remedies For Ringworm
by Home Remedies, Hom
Depending on what part of your body is infected with ringworm will determine the length of time it takes to fully cure yourself. Scalp ringworm can take up to ten weeks to cure with a conventional treatment that is prescribed by your doctor. A scalp ringworm cure from your doctor is a shampoo and an oral anti fungal drug. The oral anti fungal is needed because the shampoo in ineffective on its own for the reason it cannot penetrate your scalp to fully cure the infection.

What does ringworm look like?

Ringworm looks like a red, round rings on a person's skin, thus the name “ringworm." However scalp ringworm first appears as a crusty pimple-like bump. Foot ringworm, also known as “athlete's foot" manifests as scaly, cracking skin between the toes. And nail ringworm is recognized by thick, discolored, brittle nails.

For ringworm of the scalp and nails, you will probably have to use an orally administered treatment prescribed by a medical professional. Beginning treatment as soon as the ringworm is noticed is important to prevent
permanent hair loss.

There are many home remedies for ringworm that people claim to be effective, but most of them are not scientifically tested. One of these methods is to apply salted sea water on the spots with the ringworm fungus on them. This water will absorb all the moisture from that area and ringworm cannot live in dry areas. In order for it to work is should be kept more than 30 minutes.

1. Don't share combs, hats, towels, or anything that comes in contact with your head.
2. Wash your head and hair regularly.
3. If you believe you have scalp ringworm, make an effort to not spread it and treat it immediately. Putting it off only worsens the disease.

Treatment For Ringworm

The most common form of treatment for ringworm is a topical anti-fungal cream or ointment. There are several good brands you can purchase at any drug store or pharmacy. You can also get your doctor to give you a prescription, but this is not usually necessary.

There are also natural treatments for ringworm that seem to work as well as over the counter medicine. These include:

Tea Tree Oil - This oil is excellent at healing so many different ailments with ringworm being just one of them.

Vinegar - Putting vinegar on the affected area will kill the infection.

Iodine - This is an old fashioned remedy that still works today.

Catching ringworm early is crucial to preventing unnecessary side effects (such as permanent hair loss with scalp infestation) and discomfort. Ringworm can be treated by topical creams or orally administered medications. You can find over the counter treatments that can be good in eradicating ringworm, or you can take your child to the pediatrician and request a prescription.

Ringworm is a contagious fungus infection that can affect the scalp, the body, the feet (athlete's foot), or the nails. Tinea (pronounced: tih -nee-uh) is the medical name for a group of related skin infections, including athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Ringworm tends to be very itchy and uncomfortable. The name comes from the characteristic red ring that can appear on an infected person's skin . Ringworm is also called Tinea . Jock itch, athlete's foot, and ringworm are all types of fungal skin infections known collectively as tinea . Often, there are several patches of ringworm on your skin at once. When the scalp is infected, there is often an area of baldness. The rash can be dry and scaly or wet and crusty. It is very common, especially among children, and may be spread by skin-to-skin contact, as well as via contact with contaminated items such as hairbrushes.

Ringworm of the skin starts as a red, scaly patch or bump. People with ringworm on other parts of their skin can have a ring-shaped rash that is reddish and may be itchy. Ringworm spreads readily, as those infected are contagious even before they show symptoms of the disease. The source of the fungus is usually the soil, an animal (usually a cat, dog, or rodent), or most often, another person. Tinea cruris, or "jock itch," affects the groin area. Ringworm of the hands is tinea manuum. The fungi responsible are called "dermatophytes," meaning "plants that live on the skin" thus the more correct term for ringworm is "dermatophytosis." Although unsightly, ringworm usually isn't serious, except potentially for people with weak immune systems. The estimated lifetime risk of developing any superficial fungal infection is 20-30%.
