[H569]Home Remedies For Kidney Infection
by Susan Willis, Sus

Yeast infections in men or women can get in the way of your sex life, they can be itchy and they can be uncomfortable. A yeast infection might show up as a rash, painful sexual intercourse, vaginal odor, depression, and tiredness or fatigue - just to name a few. It is estimated that up to 75% of the population will have a yeast infection of some sort at least once during their lifetimes: yeast infections are more common than you may have thought.

There are many doctor-prescribed and over-the-counter remedies for treating yeast infections, but there are some good reasons to go with a home remedy instead of choosing a drug-based solution.

Here are 5 reasons to choose a home remedy for your yeast infection:

Reason 1: Save money:

If you get yeast infections frequently, you are likely paying a lot of money on a regular basis for cures that you buy from someone else. This can add up significantly over time, since a single treatment for an over-the-counter medicine might cost you $30 or more, with some costing as much as $300. Meanwhile, a visit to the doctor can be even more costly when you factor in the cost of the visit and the prescription medication you need to take.

Reason 2: Avoid having to visit the doctor:

Visiting the doctor can be not only costly in terms of your immediate expenditures (see above), but what about the value of your time? Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, a working husband, or anybody else, it is likely that in some sense your time is money. Think about it: a visit to even the closest doctor's office might take you an hour or more, including drive time. Many visits easily take up your whole morning or afternoon. By using a natural remedy to cure your yeast infection, you avoid that trip to the doctor that nobody likes to make.

Reason 3: Save a trip to the pharmacy:

Even if you decide to go with an over-the-counter cure for your yeast infection, that decision still means a trip to your local drugstore or pharmacy to pick up the medicine. For the same reasons mentioned above, who wants the bother going out at all if you can avoid it?

Reason 4: Avoid the side effects of drug-based medicines:

Orally-ingested yeast infection medications have been known to cause a range of side-effects, including nausea, headaches, and abdominal pain. Other side effects listed on one of most common over-the-counter yeast infection medications include: liver damage, severe allergic reaction, and scaly, red skin over large areas of the body. Just reading these potential side effects makes most people want to seek a natural remedy to cure their yeast infection.

Reason 5: Prevent future infections:

A good natural remedy will not just mask the symptoms of a yeast infection, it will cure the very cause, often meaning the infection will never return again. This is because natural remedies work to fight the very causes of the yeast infection.

Having a yeast infection is uncomfortable, embarrassing, and not conducive to a good sex life. When deciding upon a cure, it can be a smart move to go with a natural remedy that can get you on the road to a cure more quickly, in a more convenient manner, and with less expense than when going with an over-the-counter or prescription-based remedy.

Initially we should establish what yeast are exactly. Well, yeasts are simple organisms from the fungi kingdom. The only difference between them and mushrooms/toadstools is that the latter are multi-celled whereas yeasts are unicellular. They're like a fine white powder. Because they are so light they can, and do, float in the air and can settle on any potential source of food. Leave a piece of cheese out for a few days and you'll see what I mean.

And, as you'd expect, they land on us too. They settle on our skin and will find any cuts or moist places particularly appealing. They land on the food we eat. They land everywhere. Usually our immune systems take care of all these invaders. Our skin has antibiotic properties and white cells circulate in our blood stream to attack any foreign organism, no matter how small. So why is it that we fail in our attempts to get rid of these yeast spores and fall prey to them as they attempt to make use of a new source of food (us!)?

I'll deal with this another time but what we want to know is whether home remedies for yeast infections will actually work. Largely it depends on whether you are dealing with a yeast infection of the skin or whether the infection is internal. Obviously if the yeast infection is on the skin's surface we can apply a topical cream or other substance to it. In the past people used to apply vinegar, especially cider vinegar, boric acid, Epsom salts, whisky and honey to infected areas. But these were very limited in their success rate. In fact, it's because yeasts are so tough and unaffected by many chemicals that we find them everywhere.

Clearly, if the yeast infection is inside our body, rather than on the skin, it will need another approach. Often home remedies for yeast infections involved drinking concoctions that were supposed to harm the yeast cells. But such drinks are very few and far between. Pretty much anything that is strong enough to deal with a yeast cell is likely to be bad for human cells too. So we can't really go down this route. However ? don't despair!

There are approaches to treating yeast infections that are quite effective and that work without the use of chemicals or drugs. Unusually, dealing with yeast infections and particularly their side effects, is often dealt with more effectively by natural medicine than by drugs etc. However, it's important that you know how to approach it.
