Acid-balanced: This is a shampoo that has a low PH. It is good for overly dry and damaged hair due to coloring, relaxing, and bleaching. Since all of those services tend to raise the PH of your hair it is important to have an acid-balanced product to help lower it. By lowering the PH the cuticle begins to close which will give your hair an overall smoother appearance.
Color-safe: These are shampoos that will help lock your hair color in. When shopping for these look for products that say sulfate free and/or have UV filters (because ultra violet rays from the sun/tanning booths can fade your color and these UV filters help block the rays from penetrating your hair)
Clarifying: This shampoo is good for two things. Cutting through and removing product buildup from hairsprays, mousse, ect and lightening artificial hair color that has come out to dark. However, if used in excess hair may become overly dry so use minimally and deep condition.
Color Depositing Shampoo: This type of shampoo actually deposits a slight amount of color with each shampoo. It helps to keep color from fading and is ideal for the upkeep of artificial red heads.
Conditioners:
Cream Rinse: This is just ordinary conditioner that you apply and leave on for around thirty seconds. It is good for normal, permanent color free hair. It keeps it healthy and detangles in the process.
Protein Conditioners: These work well for people with fine hair. These conditioners use proteins which actually help to expand each individual hair strand which gives the appearance of fuller hair.
Deep Treatment: These are great for color-treated or dry hair. It helps to temporarily fill in the damaged cuticle to give it a smoother looking appearance. The keywords here are ?temporarily help,? remember there is no product out there that can correct breakage or split ends. This should only be done 1-2 times a week.
A protein conditioner for breaking hair combines wheat and rice proteins to improve strength, shine and manageability. Excellent for reducing breaking or repairing damaged hair, conditioners formulated with silk proteins have become the "hottest" compliment to any hair regimen to add body, infuse moisture and increase tensile strength.
Hair that is extremely dry and damaged tends to be more brittle and is more prone to breaking easily. This is essentially because damaged hair signifies that the cuticle of the hair is chipped or cracked. In severely damaged hair, the cuticle could even be completely worn off, causing the hair to become weak and brittle.
Some of the factors that cause hair to become damaged and break easily include:
?Over exposure to the sun
?Washing hair too frequently
?Combing or brushing hair too vigorously
?Over use of styling products such as dyeing, perming lotions and straighteners
?Excessive use of heating appliances such as curling irons, straightening irons and blow dryers
?Exposure to the chlorine in swimming pools or even swimming in salt water
