[H238]Heavy Duty Lift Chair
by Sean Noughtly, Sea
Almost everyone has or is at least familiar with recliners and lift chairs are a special type of recliner. They are very different though, because a lift chair is not only great for sitting in, but it also helps you stand in a manner that is safe. When the chair is fully raised, it is a simple and safe manner for the occupant to exit the chair.

Modern lift chairs utilize an electric motor to control the lifting mechanism, backrest, and footrest. Older chairs had used a spring propulsion system, but this can be very dangerous, so no reputable companies still offer the spring loaded chair. Some disingenuous companies do still offer this type of dangerous device though, so if you come across a company that still sells spring loaded lift chairs, you should avoid purchasing anything from these companies.

Since modern quality lift chairs are operated by remote control, it is very easy to find a comfortable position for sleeping, watching TV, or eating. The amount that the lift chair can recline varies by model. Some models called 2 position lift chairs can recline to a position that is great for watching TV or taking a nap, but can not fully recline. 3 position lift chairs are able to recline to an almost horizontal position that makes it easy to sleep. Infinite positions also recline to an almost horizontal position, but they differ from other lift chairs, because they allow for independent movement of the backrest and footrest. This means that the backrest can be down, but the foot rest put up.

How far back the chair can be placed from the wall, while still fully reclining, is an important consideration when purchasing a lift chair. Most require around 18? of free space to recline, but if you are dealing with tight quarters this might be too much. Wall huggers are one type of lift chair recliner that can be placed quite close to the wall, but still fully recline. Most wall hugger lift chairs can be placed as close as 6 inches from the wall. Several 3 position and infinite position wall huggers are available, so you need not sacrifice functionality for convenience.

It is not always easy to stand or to sit on your own, and many that can not easily do so use lift chairs to help them. These special recliners can offer comfort and safety all rolled into one.

For a lot of people, the task of standing up without any help can be quite difficult. This includes things like getting out of the car or off of a park bench, but also things like getting out of the recliner can also be a chore. This is one of the reasons that lift chairs have become so popular since they were first introduced over twenty years ago.
Lift chairs are devices that are used to make standing a safe and simple task. Many who suffer from mobility related disorders, such as osteoarthritis, find that without their lift chair, they would be unable to stand safely or independently.
These devices look much like a regular recliner, but they are operated electronically. This means the backrest and the footrest can be precisely positioned using a simple attached hand control. The hand control also is used to operate a lifting system in the base of the chair. This lifting system or lifting mechanism is used to raise the chair into the air and allows the chairs occupant to safely exit in a near upright position. By making the hand control simple and easy to use, manufacturers have essentially created a device that can be used by virtually anyone to safely stand or sit.
Lift chairs have been around for over twenty years, with them first being developed in the early eighties. Today, there are a lot of manufacturers who make these lifting aids, but the two most well known and respected names in the industry are Pride Mobility and Golden Technologies. Both of these companies have been around since the mid-eighties and got their start building quality custom lift chairs.
What set these two manufacturers apart from the competition in the eighties is the same thing that sets them apart today, quality. When these companies got their start, the competition was buying cheap recliners and putting a lift kit on them. These recliners where not intended to be lifted into the air several times a day, so were prone to failure. Golden and Pride entered the industry and decided to do it right. They hand built their frames to high specifications that could withstand the stress of being lifted into the air. As a result, their chairs lasted longer and worked better than the competition.
Today, Pride Lift Chairs and Golden Lift Chairs are still manufactured to very high safety and usability standards. These chairs will provide years of service and comfort, without putting too much of a toll on the bank. They offer chairs that come in many different shapes and sizes, so finding something you feel is athletically pleasing is never an issue. These models not only take into account things like comfort and design, but also usability. They offer chairs to fill specific needs of users, such as models that can be placed very close to the wall or chairs designed to lift over six hundred pounds.
When choosing a lift chair, it is hard to go wrong with a new Pride or Golden Chair.
