Strengths / Features:

When looking at the Etitancoil the first that you will notice is its heavy duty construction. The machine is made almost entirely of metal and weighs more than fifty pounds. The heavy duty metal case and punching table make this machine both strong and durable. In fact, the heavy duty construction and powerful motor in this machine allows users to punch up to twenty-five sheets of paper at a time. This is important if you plan on using your binding machine a lot within your organization.

One thing that is notable about the E Titan Coil is that it has full disengageable punching dies. When you look at the machine from the front you will notice 46 metal pull pins right above the punching throat. These pull pins allow you to stop any one of the holes on this machine from punching. This is an extremely useful feature for organizations that need to bind custom length books that are either longer or shorter than eleven inches. In fact, the disengageable dies make it possible to bind small booklets and documents that are up to twenty one inches in length.

On the right hand side of the machine there is a blue lever. This is a tool for measuring the spine of your book. You simply put the book under the lever and push it down. The measuring guide will show you the size of coil that you need to use for your documents.

The E-TitanCoil also has an adjustable depth of punch margin control. This small blue lever on the left side of the machine allows you to move the holes closer to the edge of your book for binding small documents and further from the edge to add strength to your thick books.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

Although the ETitanCoil has a built in electric coil inserter, I found the coil inserter on this machine harder to operate than some of the other coil inserters that I have used. The roller is inconveniently mounted on the top of the machine. This means that you need to lift the pages of your document up to the roller. The roller is also only half the length of the machine (about six inches). Many other coil binding machines include a full length coil to help improve traction and improve inserting. The coil inserter still works, it is just more difficult to use than the coil inserters that are included on the Akiles CoilMac binding machines.

Although the machine is extremely well built and utilizes heavy duty metal components, the foot pedal is not nearly as durable. The pedal is fairly small and is not as strong as the foot pedals on other similar pieces of binding equipment. Over time as users step on this pedal hundreds and thousands of times, the foot pedal may wear out or break.

The only other potential limitation that I noticed with this machine is that the chip tray seems a little bit small for a system of this size. This simply means that you will need to empty the tray more often in order to ensure that the chips don't back up into the punching mechanism. This isn't a huge deal. Just something to keep in mind.

Recommendation:

The E-TitanCoil is an extremely well built and durable binding machine that is designed for medium to large sized organizations that need to bind documents using 4:1 pitch coil.

It is one of the only machines on the market with fully disengageable pins. This makes it a great choice for binding documents that are printed on non standard sheet sizes.

However, for users that primarily bind letter sized sheets the placement and design of the coil inserter as well as the durability of the foot pedal make this machine a close runner up in quality to the Akiles CoilMac EPI.

Finding an electric comb-binding machine for legal-sized documents can be very challenging. The Akiles CombMac 24E fits the bill. This binder is one of the only heavy-duty, legal sized electric comb binding systems available anywhere. The CombMac 24E has the same punching motor as the very well-received WireMac E and CoilMac EPI. The CombMac is a unit that is perfect for high-volume applications. This machine is an all-in-one answer for your plastic comb binding needs. If you create a great deal of legal-sized documents on a day-to-day basis, the CombMac EPI is an excellent binding system for you.

There are several great features that the CombMac 24E is known for. It can punch 14” legal sized documents in a single cycle. This really saves time and energy because it doesn't require a complex set-up operation. It is also unnecessary to put the document through an extra punching cycle for legal-sized documents, which many other binders in this price range require. Additionally, the CombMac 24E includes a comb opener for legal sized documents, making it possible to open and insert the plastic comb easily, with up to 24 rings.

The CombMac 24E is unique in that it is one of the few binding systems available that have a reversible comb-opener handle. This handle makes it possible for left-handed people to operate the machine. This feature makes the CombMac 24E very efficient for more than one user in an office. In addition, the 24E comes with a depth of margin control and fully disengageable dies. These great features offer versatility when you bind documents that are not standard in length, or standard in width, including plastic combs from 3/16,” all the way up to 2” in diameter.

The CombMac 24E has an electric punch made with a heavy-duty construction. The punch can handle documents with up to 23 sheets per punch. The punch works with an efficient foot-pedal control that gives you the flexibility to hold the document with both hands while you make your punch. This will help you make sure that all of pages are punched correctly and properly aligned.

In addition, the 24E unit's comb opener has the ability to be unbolted at the top. This ensures that it can be used as a stand-alone machine, can be unbolted from the top of the machine. This allows it to be used as a stand-alone device, which can be very helpful to productivity, particularly if you assign two users to the binding process at the same time. In this scenario, you can double the binding output of the machine and make a real difference in your productivity.
The 24E has some limitations that must be understood before you commit to a purchase. The CombMac 24E would be more effective if it had a push-button switch for punching, instead of just a petal punch. The push-button is very helpful if you need to punch a few documents at a time. It is important to keep in mind, however, there are no other machines on the market in the same class that have a push-button mechanism either, so it's basically a moot point.

The heavy-duty construction of the CombMac 24E is great for higher-volume binding, but because it is bigger and weighs 75lbs, which is more than many similar units, it isn't exactly portable. As a matter of fact, if you have to move the unit, it may be necessary to purchase a moveable work table or cart to help take it from one place to another.

The CombMac 24E is put together with all metal components and is built to last. As previously mentioned, this construction is along the same line as the other well-made Akiles products, the WireMac E and the Coilmac EPI. The components involved in creating the binder are all easy to use and very durable, holding-up under extremely heavy use.

There is very little wrong with the construction of this machine. The only issue that it may have is the comb-opener that looks as though it is an after-thought on the binder. The good news, however, is that, although the comb-opener placement is a little odd, it actually helps the functionality of the CombMac 24E, making it more accessible for easy use. All of this works together to make the function much more important that the form of this machine.

With its unique and innovative features, The CombMac 24 E stands above the other similar binders in its class. From the legal sized punch, to the ability to use the comb binder opener as a stand-alone unit, to the reversible opener handle, the CombMac 24E is a perfectly versatile choice. The Akiles reputation is an additional benefit for the 24E. These features really do give the edge to the CombMac 24E, over the competition; the GBC C800pro or the DFG E Titan Comb. This machine is perfectly suited for companies who need higher or medium volume binding applications. You may be able to find a better binder, but It will cost a great deal more than the CombMac 24E. So take a hard look at this binding machine, you will like what you see!
