[H237]Heavy Duty Electric Stapler
by Jeff Mcritchie, Jef
* It is heavy duty, reliable, user-friendly, and functional. All of these things make the E-Titan Coil an excellent choice for Print on Demand, Quick Printers, copy shops and large corporations.

* It can punch more sheets than any other machine in its class and the unique design of the ETitanCoil makes it one of the only coil binding machines in the world that offers full disengagement-pins.

* These things make the E-Titan coil ideal for punching documents of any size including calendars, scrapbooks, photobooks, craft projects and more.

Strengths / Features:

* When looking at the Etitancoil the first that you will notice is its heavy duty construction. The machine is made almost entirely of metal and weighs more than fifty pounds. The heavy duty metal case and punching table make this machine both strong and durable. In fact, the heavy duty construction and powerful motor in this machine allows users to punch up to twenty-five sheets of paper at a time. This is important if you plan on using your binding machine a lot within your organization.

* One thing that is notable about the E Titan Coil is that it has full disengageable punching dies. When you look at the machine from the front you will notice 46 metal pull pins right above the punching throat. These pull pins allow you to stop any one of the holes on this machine from punching. This is an extremely useful feature for organizations that need to bind custom length books that are either longer or shorter than eleven inches. In fact, the disengageable dies make it possible to bind small booklets and documents that are up to twenty one inches in length.

* On the right hand side of the machine there is a blue lever. This is a tool for measuring the spine of your book. You simply put the book under the lever and push it down. The measuring guide will show you the size of coil that you need to use for your documents.

* The E-TitanCoil also has an adjustable depth of punch margin control. This small blue lever on the left side of the machine allows you to move the holes closer to the edge of your book for binding small documents and further from the edge to add strength to your thick books.

Weaknesses / Limitations:

* Although the ETitanCoil has a built in electric coil inserter, I found the coil inserter on this machine harder to operate than some of the other coil inserters that I have used. The roller is inconveniently mounted on the top of the machine. This means that you need to lift the pages of your document up to the roller. The roller is also only half the length of the machine (about six inches). Many other coil binding machines include a full length coil to help improve traction and improve inserting. The coil inserter still works, it is just more difficult to use than the coil inserters that are included on the Akiles CoilMac binding machines.

* Although the machine is extremely well built and utilizes heavy duty metal components, the foot pedal is not nearly as durable. The pedal is fairly small and is not as strong as the foot pedals on other similar pieces of binding equipment. Over time as users step on this pedal hundreds and thousands of times, the foot pedal may wear out or break.

* The only other potential limitation that I noticed with this machine is that the chip tray seems a little bit small for a system of this size. This simply means that you will need to empty the tray more often in order to ensure that the chips don't back up into the punching mechanism. This isn't a huge deal. Just something to keep in mind.

Recommendation:

* The E-TitanCoil is an extremely well built and durable binding machine that is designed for medium to large sized organizations that need to bind documents using 4:1 pitch coil.

* It is one of the only machines on the market with fully disengageable pins. This makes it a great choice for binding documents that are printed on non standard sheet sizes.

* However, for users that primarily bind letter sized sheets the placement and design of the coil inserter as well as the durability of the foot pedal make this machine a close runner up in quality to the Akiles CoilMac EPI.

The Akiles CombMac 24E is one of the only heavy-duty, legal sized electric comb binding machines available on the market today. Built with the same punching motor as the extremely successful CoilMac EPI and WireMac E, this binding machine offers a high-volume, all-in-one solution for plastic comb binding. With so few models available that can handle legal-sized comb binding, the CombMac is an excellent choice for those who bind legal-sized documents on a regular basis.

Features:

The CombMac 24E punches 14" legal sized documents in a single punching cycle, and doesn't require the complicated set-up or extra punching cycle for legal-sized documents required by many other machines in this price range. In addition, the machine has a legal sized comb opener for easy opening and plastic comb insertion, up to 24 rings.

This machine has one of the few designs available with a reversible comb-opener handle, making ideal for "lefties," making it extremely productive for offices with multiple users. It also includes fully disengageable dies and a depth of punch margin control to give you full flexibility for binding documents of non standard lengths or with plastic combs from 3/16" up to 2" in diameter.

The machine's heavy-duty electric punch will punch up about 23 sheets at a time using a convenient foot pedal control. The pedal allows you to hold the document with both hands while punching, to ensure your pages are punched accurately and are aligned every time.

Finally, the CombMac 24E's comb opener can be unbolted from the top of the machine. This allows it to be used as a stand alone device, which can be very helpful to productivity if you allow two users to take part in the binding process at the same time. This can, obviously, double your binding output and increase your overall productivity by a large margin.

Limitations:

The CombMac 24E has much to recommend it, but it does have a few limitations. The machine could benefit from a push button switch for punching., especially when only punching a few documents at a time. Unfortunately, however, none of the other similar machines on the market include a push button switch either.

Although the heavy duty design is ideal for high volume applications, it's portability can be a problem. it's not very portable. If plan to move the CombMac, you may want to consider a moveable cart or work table since the machine weighs in at almost 75lbs.

Construction:

Built with high-quality, all-metal components, on the same proven platform as the Coilmac EPI and WireMac E, Akiles has a proven record for top-of-the-line construction. The CombMac components are designed to be easy-to-operate and hold up to even the most rigorous use.

The only fault that can be found with this construction is that the comb opener looks like a late addition to the machine. But if it looks a little strange, by no means does this anomaly affect functionality. As a matter of fact, just the opposite is true, making the comb opener more easily accessible. Because of this, the machine's effectiveness outweighs its lack of aesthetics.

Recommendation:

The ComMac 24 E is highly recommended for its many unique and effective features that can't be found on other machines in its class. From a legal sized punching and comb opening, to a reversible handle for the opener, to the ability to use the comb opener as a stand-alone device - the 24E has it all.

With the winning reputation of Akiles products and service, the CombMac 24E has the edge over the competing GBC C800pro or the DFG E Titan Comb, and its perfect for organizations that do medium to high volumes of plastic comb binding. It would cost several thousand dollars to improve on this option, making it a great machine at an equally great value!
