For some schools, high school football is the main attraction when it comes to sports, and those schools take it very seriously. I remember my high school was like that, and it seemed that we always had a great team. Our basketball team never won, and the track team rarely had enough players to go on competition, but there was no shortage of those who agreed to play football. Though they have win some and lost some, they won many times and would end up in the state-wide series. Football was everything back then, and to my knowledge, it still is.
What is great about high school football is that there is usually something for every member. Even the smaller boys may find something to do with football, eventhough most of the positions are for those that are ticker and taller. There are also things to do to support the team like cheerleading and the band. Football is a sport that most enjoy, and if a team is good, the entire town comes out to support it.
Some students believe that high school football is fun since you only play one time a week. There is more to it though, a lot more. A lot of players have practice several days a week, even after school every day. They are also being encouraged to run, and spend some time bulking up a bit in the school weight room. High school football players also have to take time to be taught plays and strategy, and there is not much time left for study. Even then, the marks must be up to a certain level or team members will be barred from playing.
If your child is going to play high school football, do all you can to encourage them, but don't let them forget that there is more to life. A adolescent should experience many things without school and football taking all their time. Every school knows that, and they they try to keep things on an even balance. But, a few trainers are trying to get students to play high school football and to give up all their free time for the game. This is okay on a professional level, but kids have to be kids to grow up to be well-rounded adults. Having a passion is excellent and should be suggested, but not everyone is capable play professional sports. Those who can't should have other kind of passion when or if the football dream falters.
