[H469]Home Based Business Part Time
by Mohan Potukuchi, Moh
The number of people fantasizing about leaving their jobs has been growing. In the present global recession scenario, this may be the only option for the unemployed. Lack of individual growth opportunities, rising uncertainties, stagnation and depleting work challenges have forced many to take to the internet as the only money making goldmine! It's a great relief to see more people turning polite from the earlier times of spam and lewd messages laden chatrooms.

But, the question is: How many people (will) succeed in operate-from-home business? Basically, one's business should be based upon a time-tested model if one is interested in a short-term approach or gain. Or one can even visualize a new business model for long-term gains. Now, the latter approach needs a huge capital, long period and high-risk taking but if successful, a mountain of money. If one explores into the background of successful enterprises, it would be apparent that they all had strong business models as their foundation.

According to Michael Rappa, "In the most basic sense, a business model is the method of doing business by which a company can sustain itself -- that is, generate revenue." He goes on to say, "The business model spells-out how a company makes money by specifying where it is positioned in the value chain." The word "value" is the keyword! A product or a service can fetch one a positive net income if there is value addition to it.
Note that a value is very different from a price or cost. Some of categories of business models discussed by Rappa include: Brokerage, Advertising,Infomediary, Merchant, Manufacturer (Direct), Affiliate, Community, Subscription and Utility. First, determine your area of business. "Know your interests," cautions Elizabeth Miranda. She hits the nail when she says, "Before setting up a home based business, know what you can do and what you are good at ..." Things do not happen overnight!

A few examples will make the topic clear. The traditional business model adopted by shopkeepers even to this day is the store and sell model. Later, shopping chain model was pioneered by companies like Walmart. Multi-level marketing (MLM) followed in due course. These business models had a set of established policies, processes and procedures for duplication. A detailed manual for processes and ready-made formats for procedures ensured their certain, if not, rapid success.

Coming to internet marketing, we have buy-sell-auction model of eBay. Amazon has its own style of buy-sell model. On the net, one will find "Freemium" and "Premium" models. In freemium, one has limited access to the features of the program tempting one to ultimately to reach out to the advanced features by paying the subscription fee. An auto-responder is a type of business model with its own drawbacks.

Ever wonder why Yahoo (or others) started with free email? Once it's subscribed by many, it is a great avenue for advertising. Who pays for search engines? Google used this technology to capture a multitude of net-surfers with the long-term goal of earning from AdSense and AdWords. Examples are plenty! Not to forget, Twitter's owner, one day, will make billions.

So, before you take up home based business or not succeeding online, take time to model your business.

You have your domain name and web hosting plan set up. You have a general idea of how your home based business website is going to look. Now you need to decide which affiliate programs you are going to promote. I am currently with Commission Junction, Google Adsense, Clickbank, Amazon Affiliate Program and Strong Future International. These are the affiliate companies that send me checks every month. There are other programs that I am affiliated with but they only provide me with other incentives not the cash type so I will not mention them in this article. I only wanted to point out the companies that are really sending me checks.

Commission Junction- CJ has approximately 2300 different companies they are paying small and large commissions to people who are promoting their products. It does not necessarily have to be about the home based business industry. You can promote whatever products are relevant to your website. Most importantly people do not have to buy anything in order for you to make a commission. Some companies will pay you just for having the customer sign a simple form or enter an email address. They consider this a lead and they are willing to pay for it. I highly recommend commission junction and I would sign up with them immediately if you are wanting to some extra money. (It's free to join.)

Google Adsense- You will get paid for showing relevant ads on your website. The neat thing about Google adsense is that all you need to do is set up an account, choose which ad type you are wanting to use and copy and paste some code on your website. They will have you up and running in the matter of minutes. Then every time someone visits your website and clicks on one of the ads you get paid for it and believe me when I say it can ad up. The more traffic you have coming in the more money you will make. (It's free to join.)

Clickbank- They're one of the biggest affiliate companies out there but their methods are a little bit different. Unlike Commission Junction and Google Adsense you will not be copying and pasting code instead you will have links with you assigned affiliate id built right in. You can promote thousands of different products and services but you will not get paid by people signing up or clicking on the links. You will only get paid if someone buys a product or service but the commissions are much higher. Sometimes you will make ten dollars a sale and sometime much, much more. I am currently promoting about 30 different products and it is gradually picking up but remember the more you promote then the higher you conversion ratio will get. (It's free to join.)

Amazon- What can I say about Amazon? They have millions of products to promote and you will make a commission from ever sale made through your affiliate links on your website. You can promote anything and customize your links or banners to the way your website looks. Change the products weekly, monthly or just have specials. Your options are endless with Amazon. (It's free to join.)

SFI (Strong Future International)- Here is another affiliate program I fell in love with. It is so easy to promote. All you have to do is get people to sign up under you and teach them to duplicate what you are doing. You can go 7 levels deep in your power line plus you will get paid off others that join SFI that are not personally enrolled by you. There are 3 ways to get paid through SFI. You have Executive Matches, Executive Bonuses and Team Matches. Note that literally THOUSANDS of people from all over the world are joining SFI every week. Hence, you can profit from the sales of every affiliate in the world who joins SFI from this day forward. (It's free to join.)

These are five different affiliate programs I am currently involved with. They are all free to join and you can start promoting them immediately. Please visit my website for links to these programs. If you have any additional question about these companies please do not hesitate to contact me.

This is Part 4 of many articles to come in regards to Starting a Home Based Business so please be looking for future articles when I will be writing about “ How To Get Some Free Website Traffic”. That is the next step that needs to be taken after you get your affiliate links set up on your website.

To Your Success,
