• First, use the spray bottle and squeegee to clean the areas of the glass where you would place the decorative window film. Make sure all the dirt and grime are removed.
• Next, measure the glass surface with the tape measure. The amount of film you will use should oversize the surface by ¾ on each side. Cut the film.
• Next, fill the spray bottle with water; this should be about 38oz. Add about eight drops of mild detergent into the bottle. Do not use any acidic based detergent or any other detergent with chemicals that can harm or damage your window and the film.
• Lay the film on a flat surface. Carefully remove the cover of the film, exposing the adhesive side. Once exposed, use the solution in the spray bottle and spray on this side. Then, apply some of the same solution to the glass surface. This would prevent the film from attaching immediately therefore giving you more time to adjust the film.
• Place the film on the glass. Once you are happy with the position, use the squeegee from the centre of the film to the side to eliminate any and all air bubbles. Make sure there are no air bubbles left. If there are any air bubbles left, just use the squeegee to remove them.
• Now, use the ruler and razor knife to cut the excess film at both sides. Then use some more of the paper towel to dry the film and take out any solution left from earlier. There you have it. It would take a few days to completely dry.
• Some reminders, take extra time and care in cleaning the glass before putting on the film, this can give you trouble in applying the decorative window film. Also, while removing the cover from the film as it may roll onto itself, spray it with the solution while removing it.

The most common types of decorative window films that widely used are adhesive-based polyester films and adhesive-free static-vinyl films. The adhesive-based films were used in the past this could be in the form of normal paper stick on the glass panel of the window.
When we first thinking about the adhesive type, we normally think about its advantage of price, which generally cheaper than adhesive-free static-vinyl film. However, if compare to all of other element and characteristic of both type of films, you will realise that there are other advantage that adhesive-free type has more benefit of use. These benefits can be demonstrated as appearance, materials, supplies, time of installing and remove and energy saving.
However, the method of application of both films to window glass surface is quite similar. These steps are firstly clean the glass surface and make sure the surface is free from stain and dust. Remove film from backing paper then apply film to the surface. The most important process is you have to squeegee out water and air bubbles from under film and let dry.

Generally the adhesive-free films are the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sheets and they are available in 0.8 mm. in thickness. Although there is a huge different of both type of films, but you still be able to choose them as they have benefits, especially in terms of easy to trim size as well as easy to be applied to glass that has wet surface. The other different between the adhesive-free and normal adhesive is the adhesive-free needs water sprayed once after it has been removed from the backing paper. So this make the normal adhesive type is more difficult in terms of installation and removal.
However, a big difference between both types is obvious when we remove film form backing paper. The ordinary adhesive generally is heavier and it will hang quite straight when removed from its backing paper. There is a caution point that you have to be careful not to let the ordinary adhesive touch on the window before apply to the glass because it will easily straightened and it will lose ability to stick on the glass. However, some manufacturers have realised of this point and improve the quality so some type of ordinary adhesive still ready to apply.
