[H1807]Http Www Foodnetwork Com
by Mark Meshulam, Mar
I have even seen people dropping the "www." part of the web address, and they sometimes connect anyway. What does it all mean?

Let's start with http. It is an acronym for the tongue twister HyperText Transfer Protocol. When you type this into your web browser, you are telling it that you intend to interact with the internet according to a specific set of rules (protocols), and the internet will respond in return.

Your web browser, such as Internet Explorer(tm), is software which helps you communicate with the internet by sending your requests out and retrieving the files you are seeking. When you search the internet or type a URL (Uniform Resource Locator, or web address) into the address bar of your browser, you are in effect requesting to view files.

These files could be text and images. Your browser assembles and displays them according to more rules, this time the rules come from the language of the internet, HTML ("Hypertext Markup Language").

When you navigate to a website, your browser looks for a file named index.htm. This file contains the basic structure of the overall site, and tells your browser what other files to look for and how to display them on your screen.

When you click on a link, your browser sends out another request, and either replaces the page you are viewing with a new page, or opens an entirely new page and displays the files.

The huge portion of the internet which uses http:// to find websites which in turn use HTML language for displaying files is called the World Wide Web. Thus the URL http://www.website.com is basically saying:

Ms. Browser, please use the HyperText Transfer Protocol to access the World Wide Web and obtain files from website.com. Then display them on my screen according to the rules written in the file index.htm, which is written in Hypertext Markup Language.

And the amazing thing is... it does!

A website should be able to serve the useful purpose and user friendly. Lack of clarity, poor grammar, or lack of organization will mark its effectiveness. It is important to pay attention to little details that make the site easier to use. A website should communicate the ideas and emotions which in turn should evoke a positive and specific response from the visitor.

No matter how great the graphics might be or the navigation scheme or the flowery words, the success of your website will depend on how concisely, clearly and effectively you present your ideas.

There are few basic concepts that every webmaster should keep in mind while designing the website.

1) The process of website creation. How to understand and create the webpages, understanding page layout and navigation and optimizing your website graphics as well as website content.

2) The ability to express the theme. Organize your website material for presentation; this is the heart of a website. Analyze the audience and adapt your ideas and efficient arrangement of information.

3) Fresh Content and Layout depends on user feedback.

Take the visitor comments into consideration and make the changes on your website accordingly. Remember that your website have been made for them. Your personal feelings should never take precedence over what your visitors are looking for.

Conclusion:

Just as in music, knowledge of an instrument may deepen ones appreciation, so, too, in website design a knowledge of the tools used to produce the website is essential to the constant improvement of ones skill as a webmaster.

Equally important is learning the skills necessary to drive your ideas. After all, your website is a vehicle for expressing information in such a way as to persuade the visitor to respond in a certain way. Wether it is the dissemination of information or the selling of a product, the way your ideas are expressed will make or break the success of your website and it's message.

At last but not the least, pay attention to the feedback from your website visitor. Some feedback may be positive, some may be negative. So dont get disappointed but try to improve your website according to user comments and their needs. Just keep in mind, if your website visitor is satisfied with your website, there is nothing that can stop your website from beling successful.
