[I197]In Home Day Cares
by Scott Phelps, Sco

Though the reasons that people choose to work from home are many and varied, one of the more common reasons is the desire to care for and raise your children yourself. This in and of itself can be an obstacle for some kinds of at home employment, because of the need for time to work with the interruptions that children tend to bring, and though you may be able to work around that, you might want to consider other alternatives.

If you like spending time with children (especially children who are not related to you), and you are willing to open up your home to others, then running an at home day care may be a viable alternative to working outside of the home. But this isn't for everyone.

Firstly there is training to consider. The different states have different regulations, but all are likely to require some training and certifications before you are able to take children into your home. The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential is often the minimum that will be required, along with a verification visit to ensure that your home is safe and fit for young children to be in. The CDA requires approximately one hundred and twenty hours of training, and there may be other requirements that you need to meet, including having a certain minimum number of children that you care for before you can call yourself a day care operator.

If you feel unable to complete the CDA then you can still offer baby sitting services on an ongoing basis, but you would be limited as to the number of children that you are allowed to take.

Another big problem that people may have is learning to meet all of the children's needs within the home and not just caring for their own child-or prioritizing their own child's needs over the other children in their care. All of the children in your care will be needing your time, yet seeing your child upset may draw you to them and this is a disservice to the other children who need your time too.

The children will need to be kept happy and engaged as well as just safe, and this too can be a challenge for some people. Regular activities will need to be offered which can stretch the imagination. Involving all of the children in those activities can be even harder, especially if some decide that they want to do something else. Your home will need to be large enough to offer the space needed for the children to play, potentially to nap, and to house all of the activities that you arrange.

Discipline and your own demeanor are another important consideration. If you are prone to losing your temper, or are unable to handle discipline in a calm and level manner whilst following the instructions of the child's parents, you would not be suited to this line of work.

For those at home parents, both male and female, who enjoy spending time with groups of children for long periods of time, this can be a perfect solution to meeting your income needs. You will always know that your own child is safe, secure and happy, and that your finances will be just as secure as your child.

In addition to the minimal investment that is needed, you will also already have the space for your kids being that you will be running your business from your home. All in all, a day care business is one of the best opportunities to make good money without having to spend a lot of it up front.

If you are going to start a home day care business you need to make sure that you are aware of every last detail. Remember, you will be taking care of the children of other people.

If anything happens to them you will be fully responsible. So, the best way to avoid anything bad happening is by simply getting everything carefully in order from the very beginning.

The first thing that you will need to do is make a thorough check to be sure that your house is absolutely safe enough to run a day care business in.

In other words, do you have the room to house all of the children without posing a threat to their safety? You should have a designated area, in your home, that you can run your care business out of.

Never try to turn your whole home into the day care business itself. This will only make a mess, and make it much more difficult for you to keep track of everything that is happening.

Your home needs to be totally child proof. You must have absolutely nothing that may harm the children that you are caring for. This includes things such as accesible stairs that they could fall down, or small items that they could choke on.

Everything small children see or touch, you can be sure, will go into their mouth and cause havoc for you. This is why having a clearly designated area for your day care business is of the utmost importance.

Once you have your home area set up, you need to carefully make sure that you have all of the proper certificates and insurance in order to run a business from your home. Many people, unbelievably overlook this, and end up running into big problems down the line.

You do not want to let this happen to you. Get in touch with the appropriate expert people in your area and ask them exactly what legal preparation you need to do in order to set up your care business.

Your local municipality will be able to give you the information that you need in order to get started. However, double check everything with them to be sure everything is covered because you are still liable even if they miss something and the mistake is theirs.

Starting a, from your home, day care business can be very profitable, and quite fun if you love children.

Make sure that before you begin your home business that you have all of the loose ends tied up. This will further help to ensure your chances of success as your business starts and grows.
