[I200]In House Dog Training
by Johnathan Bash, Joh
We've all seen it, the family dog who behaves absolutely perfectly until everyone sits down to eat and then turns into a triple-crown Ultimate Begging Championship world record holder. He starts moving from one person to another, pushing his nose into your lap, and even putting his paws on the table while he stares at the food on your plate.

It doesn't matter what it is, all that matters to him is that it's food and he wants it.

One may wonder to himself how this normally well behaved pet has transformed into such a terror at mealtime!

The truth is that it only took one slip: one person just had to slip that dog some food from their plate one time and the dog was on his way to becoming a begging machine. That was enough for him to associate the table with his food.

Now, while a dog can't live on table scraps, they can eat many of the same things humans do so occasional leftovers are not going to be a problem. The problem only comes when you feed your dog from the table.

Should you decide to share food with your dog, obey a couple easy steps!

Share his treat solely in his bowl.

Don't give him anything until you have finished eating.

Adhere to these few rules and the future will be simple. Be sure his infrequent treats to praise him are the single food items not rewarded in a dish and you will teach good routines and won't be allowing him to develop bad routines - and make sure they are not from YOUR plates!

Breaking a bad practice is always more difficult than creating a good practice.

Dog training is basically all about understanding the language of your dog and teaching it to understand your own language. Dog training is the perfect blending of your needs and your dog's needs. Training your dog requires a substantial amount of patience to make it successful.

Dogs are non-verbal creatures while human beings are verbal creatures. Dogs basically communicate what they feel by wagging their tails, moaning, whining, barking or biting. Humans need to learn how to tell their dogs what they want through both verbal and non verbal language.

Dog training commands should be short, concise and enunciated clearly if your dog is going to respond to it. Some dog handlers train their dogs in French or German. Dog training commands are designed to be comprehensible to the dog in order for it to respond favorably.

Prong or pinch collar is a dog training device that helps to put a dog in check in order to prevent it from acting in a way that you don't like. The prong collar consists of metal inks that fit together by connecting teeth which point upwards towards the dog's neck. The prong collar basically pokes the dog into action.

Always reward your dog for positive behavior and punish it for bad behavior. Your dog should be able to know the difference between good behavior and bad behavior as dictated by you. Basically, a dog only knows what you want it to know in the course of training.

There are certain things that your dog trainer needs to know if he or she is to train your dog appropriately. If your dog has certain negative traits, tell your dog trainer so that he or she knows how to handle it. Withholding information back from your dog trainer may ruin a successful training for your dog.

Dog training starts first with your ability to get and hold your dog's attention. A dog that is unable to pay attention will make a poor candidate for training. Make sure that you have your dog's full attention before you issue out any command.
