[I259]Indoor Outdoor Round Rug
by Kristie Chiles, Kri

Round rugs are popular for interior home decor throughout the world. They look good in various places inside a house and people especially choose them for using in living rooms, bathrooms, and even in the basement. In many homes, people use attractive color combinations of round rugs to furnish the inside of their homes for a stylish look. While majority of people choose to buy them, some like to knit their own round rugs at home. And If you don't like to knit, you can find these in specialty shops and at flea markets and garage sales. Finding a round rug at a garage sale can be quite an adventure, since these kinds of rugs are usually rarer and not as easily available. The reason for this is that the shape of the rug makes it more of a "need" to find just that right spot, that a square or rectangular rug.

Using Round Rugs at Home

While round rugs look good at almost all places inside a home, they look particularly fit for use in the living rooms and bathrooms. In the living room or lounge, round rugs serve as a focal point for the room's appearance. They are preferably placed at the room's center but also in proximity to any main piece of furniture to complement it by harmony or contrast of colors. In a bathroom, a round rug also serves the purpose of keeping feet warm and dry. Some people also use round rugs in the basement, especially for covering an unfinished part of the basement's floor.

Color Combinations for Round Rugs

The decorative effect of a round rug can be greatly enhanced by carefully selecting a combination of complementary or related colors within the same rug. A combination of complementary (opposite) colors in a round rug would include green against red, orange against blue, and yellow against violet. One of these opposites can be chosen as the dominant or foreground color and its complementary in the background for a pronounced effect of colors. Using related colors like red with orange-red or blue with greenish-blue is a second way of making a stylish display of colors in a round rug. Whether or not to use a brightly colored combination in a round rug mainly depends on the room's overall look. For a busy place, a complacent effect can be induced by choosing cool colors for a round rug. For a more quiet and uniform interior, vibrant colors may liven up the place.

Making One's Own Round Rug

Some women, who love knitting, choose to make their own round rug, giving themselves all the freedom in choosing the rug's color pattern and decorative design. This can be done by means of heavy knitting needles and a fairly thick yarn. A number of different color or shade combinations can be included in the rug's design by knitting a closed loop or ‘band' around which other bands are made in a concentric style. The completed bands are finally assembled by sewing to make the round rug of one's choice.

Are you thinking about adding a round rug to your home? If so, you will be just like millions of other homeowners all over the world. And even though adding a round rug is not unique, it is something that you should consider doing nonetheless. The main reason that some people do not look into this is because they have no clue on what room would best take a round rug. But as you can imagine, this is no reason to be slowed down. If you take the time to consider your home and the layout, you will have the perfect piece set up on your floor in no time at all.

There is no way of saying for sure what room in your home is best for a round rug. This is simply based on taste as well as what you like as far as interior decorating is concerned. Even if a round rug does not look right in a particular room, who is anybody else to tell you to make a change? After all, you should make your home look like you want, and from there forget about what everybody else is telling you.

Generally speaking, a round rug will look great in any size room. On top of this, you can usually find one that will also work with any shape room as well. Of course, you will want to make sure that you get the piece that is going to fit the best. This will help to make sure that your rug looks perfect, and that it does not get in your way. There is nothing worse than a rug that will not lay flat. Not only does this look bad, but it can also become a safety hazard as well.

There are many rooms that round rugs will look good in. For instance, a lot of homeowners put these in the entrance ways of their home. This can be done at the front door, back door, deck door, or anywhere else for that matter. When you add a round rug to the entrance, you will be able to take advantage of two benefits. First and foremost, it will go a long way in preserving the good looks of your primary flooring. Remember, an entrance way is the area where most people will be walking the second that they come in from the outside. You want to make sure that they have a rug where they can wipe their feet.

Additionally, a round rug in an entrance way will also give visitors a nice first impression; this is especially true if you splurge for a rug that is top of the line.

Also, you should consider what a round rug has to offer in a bathroom, game room, or bedroom. These may be the most common places for a rug of this type, but they are definitely not the only options.

All in all, look into adding a round rug to your home's interior d'cor. They have a lot to offer, and are easy to find.
