[H1745]How To Wash A Duvet
by Shane Short, Sha

As you may know a duvet cover is a decorative cover used to protect both duvets and comforters. They work like giant pillow cases and can be a great option when updating the color or design of your bedding. By simply changing the shell of your bedding you can set an entirely different mood for a room at an affordable price. These duvet covers can be washed easily if all the following directions are followed.

The first thing to do is read the label carefully. If the label reads dry clean only, be sure to take it only to your dry cleaners. Attempting to wash this kind of duvet cover yourself, can only result in a potential disaster. Because the duvet cover fits over an existing comforter or duvet you have no room for shrinkage or damage.

Next, when you are dealing with a duvet cover that can be washed, always pre-treat any stains. Either rub or spray in the stain remover and let it sit as per the instructions on the chosen stain remover packaging. Generally, the worse the stain, the longer the remover should stay applied. Just be sure not to let the stain remover dry.

Place the duvet cover in the machine when you are ready to begin the washing cycle. Just like normal loads, be sure to evenly spread out the duvet covet throughout the machine. Also be sure to wash this alone. If you see that the cover is too big for your washer simply go to your local laundry matt and wash the cover there. After you have put the detergent in and set the machine on warm-wash cycle be sure to monitor the cycle making sure that the duvet cover does not bunch up. If so, stop and re-distribute the cover in the machine.

Finally, when the wash is finished, check for stains. If you see that some of the stains did not come out, re-treat the fabric with stain remover and wash again. If there are no stains place the cover in the dryer with dryer sheets and dry on the lowest heat setting. This may take a while but you will be protecting your cover in the long run. When it is completely dry, you are ready to place your comforter or duvet back in the cover and enjoy your fresh clean bedding.
