[A659]Are Insurance Premiums Deductible
by Rob R., Rob
People in the U.S.A are getting more obese according to the Trust For Americans Health fourth annual obesity report. The report states that in the past year, two thirds of adults are overweight or obese, with obesity rates going up in thirty one states, and no states with obesity rates going down and in thirty two states sixty percent of the population is overweight or obese.

Overweight and diseases linked to obesity along with insurance premiums and the number of uninsured Americans is also going up. Heart disease ( number 1 killer in America ), diabetes and cancer are preventable obesity related diseases.

According to AARP, health insurance cost are up 87% for a family of four since 2000 and 47 million are now without insurance, 2.2 million more than 2006.

There are steps that can be taken to prevent devastating illness related to being overweight or obese, regardless if your insured or not. Inactivity and poor diet are the biggest problems causing obesity. The most important organ in your body, your heart, needs cardiovascular stimulation with some form of exercise to help fortify it and deliver oxygen to the body.

Having any preexisting health issues will have an impact on your insurance rates and deductibles. In many cases if you go to a new provider or are finally getting insurance, you can be turned down. The escalating incidences of obesity connected ailments, is also influencing health insurance premiums.

Possibly one of the biggest challenges facing families today is the increase in obese children with 1 in 5 overweight kids and a higher risk of social and employment problems for starters, then a larger chance of premature death or debilitating ailments. Get the kids involved in sports, or any kind of physical activity and guide them to healthy eating habits, so they can grow up to be happy healthy young adults.

Living a healthy lifestyle is a free insurance policy for you and your family that only takes committing to good healthy nutritional foods and continuous fitness conditioning habits.

People who have sedentary jobs or lead an inactive lifestyle are at the most risk, but it's not to late to start regardless of your weight or age. Form good eating habits and stop all poor eating habits by avoiding saturated fats found in fatty meat, ice cream, whole milk, butter, plus trans fats found in cookies, donuts, cakes and junk food, soda pop ( less sugars,) fast food restaurants,(cook at home more) and eat in moderation. .

According to the prominent World Health Oraganization, evidence is begining to reveal that you are at a much higher risk of acquiring a chronic disease as your average body mass index (BMI) increases over 21. They also claim if your (BMI) is 25 or more you are considered overweight and over 30 you are obese. You can calculate your own (BMI) by dividing the square of a persons height (in meters) by his or her weight (in kilograms). Heart disease, diabetes and some forms of cancer are contributed to a high body max index.

Applying physical activities to one of Americas favorite past times (television) is a way to avoid becoming overweight. Spending hours everyday sitting inactively can have a very negative effect to your well being, so instead of sitting the entire time, get up and perform some medium to intense routines such as aerobics, running in place, sit ups, or any kind of movement you prefer while you watch your program.

With employers reluctancy of hiring overweight and obese persons, employers searching for ways to place more of the health care cost on to the employees and the higher risks of being off work due to illness, applying preventable steps to help stop life threatening diseases may very well be the best insurance policy for you and your family. Plan wellness activities that include enough exercise and a proper diet so you and your family aren't burdened with possible health and financial ruin.

To enjoy a productive healthy life, it is imperative to lead it with healthy eating choices and some form of exercise program and never quit.

It is recommended that you actually look at your own medical records so that nothing slips by undisclosed. Sometimes, doctors will make notes on your file that even you are not aware of. Some life insurance companies can use these undisclosed events as a way of refusing to pay out in the event of a claim.

This can happen even if the undisclosed illness has no bearing on the illness or death of the claimant. They will see it as an act of dishonesty and many cases have been fought over the subject.

It also works in our favour to look after ourselves, given the guidelines that medical authorities give us. These guidelines are also passed on to life insurance companies and they will make reductions in our premiums if we can show we are living a healthy lifestyle.

But do they have a responsibility to assess all the latest findings from tests run by the authorities to then further reduce premiums for life insurance?

A woman will find it virtually impossible to get life insurance cover while she is pregnant but do the insurance companies then take into account that with each child born, her risk of developing breast cancer is reduced by 7%? Do they know whether or not she will breastfeed for up to a year, further reducing her risk of breast cancer by another 4%?

Even in families where breast cancer is prevalent, if a woman has an early childbirth, after the initial raise in risk her chances of developing the disease then fall beyond that of a childless mother with familial incidents of the disease.

Studies carried out in Denmark found that mothers of children who suffered cancers in their early years were a third more likely to develop breast cancer than expected. It is thought that this is due to the mother-child interaction during pregnancy and is also hormone related. The risk is further increased if the child is a male.

Do life insurance companies ever ask if the insured were breastfed? This factor alone reduces the risk of adult obesity, with all its life threatening implications, to a level that should merit lower premiums.

Fathers, also, do not go through parenthood without changing their risks of developing cancer, but this is overlooked by life insurance companies. A medical study of one million men in Denmark revealed that fathers are 16% more likely to develop prostate cancer than childless men.

Fathers with six or more children were less likely to develop the most common cause of male cancer, possibly showing that men who are able to have large families have healthier prostates but that does not account for the men that are able, but choose not to, have so many children.

Officials are confused over the results as there is no obvious link. The only thing these results can be attributable to is a difference in lifestyle with single, childless men more likely to look after themselves.

Given that prostate cancer kills 10,000 men every year in the UK, these studies may well be worth looking at from the viewpoint of life insurance companies.
