[H1842]Hypnotherapy Give Up Smoking
by William Meikle, Wil
Try to cut down
This is the cowards way out - and you know it. "I'll just have one now, and no more till twelve o clock" you'll say. Then you'll hit a stress situation at ten-thirty and have two cigarettes to calm you down. But they don't count do they?

Use patches
These are just an excuse to flash your body at people. You'll all do it - lifting up your shirt or blouse to show off your "battle bandage". And you'll still need something to do with your hands, so you'll have a cigarette.

Use nicotine gum
You'll need to masticate constantly to get any kind of buzz. Your gums will hurt, your jaw will ache, your mouth will taste like a stale ashtray and you'll look like a cow. You'll be better off having a cigarette.

Use hypnosis
Do you really want to stand on your head every time somebody says "cigarette"?

Use acupuncture
Someone you don't know will stick large needles into your body. In any sane society the practitioner would be jailed for torture.

Try exercise
Within five minutes you'll be red faced, wheezing for breath and coughing up phlegm. Real exercise buffs will look at you with such pity that you'll need a cigarette.

Try isolation
Lock yourself away, talk to no one, avoid all social contact. You'll be so bored you'll need a cigarette.

Try a cigarette substitute
Do this and you'll find that everybody, and I do mean everybody, will ask you stupid questions like "Are you trying to give up smoking then?" This will annoy you so much you'll need to have a cigarette.

Try to avoid situations where you'll want a cigarette.
This is the standard method given out by all the 'experts.' It is also completely useless. Do you really want to give up coffee? Or booze? Or sex? Or watching television? Or waking up in the morning? See what I mean?

Try to be a non-smoker
You'll find yourself telling smokers how great you feel, how smoking is a filthy disgusting habit, and how you'll never let a cigarette touch your lips. These will be lies, and everybody will know it. This lying will cause you so much stress that you'll need a cigarette.

So what are you to do? I'll let you know the only method that really works.

Stop buying cigarettes.

I've been nicotine free for six years now.

I feel great. Smoking is a filthy disgusting habit, and I'll never let another cigarette touch my lips.

Psychology in sport has developed greatly over the years and hypnotherapy has become a vital part of many sports men and womens training programs. How many times have you heard phrases like, being focused, in the zone, mental preparation or even his/her minds not on their game today? Many, many times I bet. All terms related to the mind and this is where hypnotherapy comes into its own, enabling sportsmen and women to get their minds into good shape as well as their bodies.

Hypnotherapy and self-hypnosis techniques in particular are helping people in various fields of sport to enhance their chances of success. By increasing their self belief, concentration, motivation, visualization and decreasing their negativity and performance anxiety, hypnotherapy brings their performance levels up to a new and improved level. Obviously natural ability and talent will win through in the end but by combining those attributes with a positive mind set success to all the more achievable.

Sport is full of mind games, you only have to watch the weigh in before a big boxing contest to see it, although these days as much of the hype that goes on is about selling tickets, but that is another matter. Teams and individuals try to psyche each other out prior to and during matches and it is often the stronger mind that comes through the better. A great example of how the mind plays such a vital role in sport is when back on 6th May 1954, Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile barrier, previously thought impossible, in a time of three minutes fifty nine point four seconds. Once the impossibility barrier had been broken in peoples minds fourty five other athletes achieved similar times in the following eighteen months. Their success may not have been a direct effect of hypnotherapy but it was certainly down to them changing their attitude about achieving something previously thought impossible and having a new and positive mind set.

Hypnotherapy can help off the field as well as on it by allowing a sports person to have the ability to cure or at least control complaints like stress, insomnia, phobias and anxiety, all of which contribute to a persons ability to be able to play a sport more successfully than they may have been able to previously. The power of the mind is awesome and it is only in recent years that people from all walks of life are realizing just how much further their natural physical abilities can be enhanced by learning to have control of it. Hypnotherapy and self hypnosis can give anyone the ability to play sport and life in general at a higher, more enjoyable and at times more profitable level.
