[I141]If You Quit Smoking
by Tom Johnson.., Tom
A close second to the improvement in your health when you quit smoking is the huge improvement in your wallet. While you're blowing your cigarette smoke into the air stop and think of what you and your family could do with the extra money if you quit smoking. Your lifestyle could take a real boost because of the savings you'd make by quitting this expensive habit.

It all starts innocently with the lure of "joining in" and trying a cigarette, but it's when the one or two becomes a packet, then before you know it's a pack a day or more. Once nicotine has a hold on you it's a very hard addiction to shake and the monetary cost of your habit only increases until you make a firm decision to quit smoking.

Simple maths will show you the cost of your habit. Multiply the number of packs smoked a day by 365 to get your annual consumption, then divide that figure by 12. Take the answer and multiply by the cost of a pack and you have your monthly smoking bill. Quit smoking and all that money can be used to improve your and your family's quality of life.

To put that in perspective, if you smoke one pack a day at the relatively low cost of $3.58 a pack, your habit is costing you $1,306.70 a year.

Just think, if you quit smoking, after ten years you'd have an extra $13,067 to do something extravagant with and not have the health complications from a smoking habit! Obviously if you're up to 2-3 packs per day in a state where the cost of cigarettes is well over $5 per pack, you'll see an even bigger impact on your finances and be able to afford to have an even bigger celebration.

Of course if you don't quit smoking, then you'll also be paying a lot of other costs associated with your habit. For example, smokers have a larger bill for teeth cleaning and dry cleaning, just to remove the stains and odors.

Also until you quit smoking, you're plagued with higher insurance costs because health care providers know the impact smoking causes on the health economy of our nation.

Want to upgrade your car? If you've been smoking in it, you won't get as much for your trade-in as you would if you had quit smoking. By the way, that's no excuse for constantly flicking your ash out the window and dumping your butts on the road, not only can this be a major cause of grass fires, but it doesn't stop your car from stinking of cigarette smoke. In addition, studies are showing that smokers earn less and are running the risk of being unemployable by companies with a non smoking policy.

Insurance isn't the only health cost, there are many other health issues caused by smoking that place a burden on your finances. Stop smoking and improve your health outlook as well as your family health. The consequent increase in your available money and health will make your lifestyle so much better.
