Ice skates- history:

Time back about 3000 B.C., the oldest or you can say that first pair of ice skates were used to made up of leg bones especially of large animals. Craftsmen for ice skates used to make holes at each end and then use straps made up of pure leather to tie up the bones. Everyone was assured that development in the technique of making ice skates will definitely occur.  

After that, Dutch people started to use a platform made up of wood having a flat base of iron. This base of iron helps runners to easily glide over the ice. Till the time of 14th century, people just used such types of technique for the activity of ice skating. With the passage of time, new techniques came in front for making the ice skating more convenient with comfy ice skates.   

After that the other way of ice skating was introduced where the leather straps were used to tie up the ice skates with the skater's shoes and also poles were used for helping the skater to move around easily. Though, additional the improvement was made with passage of time and when the people started adding a double edged blade with narrow metal sheet which was absolutely for glide with feet and hence skaters didn't need the poles for their help anymore.

 
Now the time came when the steel clamp was made-up. This was followed for very short time and two plate metal blades were used for making ice skates at that time. The metal blades were directly attached to boots which contributed a lot in making your jumps and steps very easy to do. After that, in the time of 1870s, toe picks were supplemented to ice skates which made jumps with toe picks very easy to do.

 
Ice skates were absolutely revolutionized in the year of 1914 when a person working as a simple blade maker from the place- Minnesota, USA invented the closed toe blade made up of single piece or portion of steel. Toe blades made ice skates lighter and powerful with absolute durability. People also enjoy the ice sports such as ice hockey with the same quality ice skates.   

For the present, ice skates are much comfortable and hassle free to wear with comparison as they used to be thousands of years ago. We see a lot of tape and extra long laces on hockey skates when players are getting ready. Eventhough these can surely help in many cases, try not to overdo it. The tape and laces around the top of the hockey skates may restrict movement, causing pain and discomfort which will not only affect your play; it also may affect your everyday life also.

When you try on your hockey skates you really want to pay attention to how your feet feel. Younger player who are still growing can try a test. Kids can tap their feet all the way up to the very front of the skates. If the child's parents can put both of his fingers behind the child's ankle down to the heel when the foot is pressed in, then the skates are too big.
