[L23]Lakes And Mountains Holidays
by Lucien Oliveira, Luc
Among Earth's topographic elements, lakes and mountains are one of the most alluring places to visit. It is very interesting that most of the time we have majestic mountains, and near them there are several pretty lakes, or a larger, exquisite lake. They seem to combine in order to create distinct biomes and an ecosystem of their own. With the intention of giving a broader idea of their "partnership", here are several examples in different locations on the planet.

The first example is the Zagros Mountains. They are located in Iran and Iraq and are paralleled to the Persian Gulf. They have permanent snow cover, and oaks are the main trees on the highlands. In lower elevations, one can find pistachios, almonds, pear trees, etc. Nearby, there are charming lakes and waterfall that enliven the landscape. In second, we have the Haridad Soridag Range in Mongolia, which is placed in the west portion of Lake Hovsgol, the largest freshwater lake in the world. This lake has very cold, dark blue waters. Mongolia has several mountains rising in the west and in the north part of the country, and hundreds of freshwater and saltwater lakes. Another mountain within its borders is the Altay Mountains, which is located in the junction of 4 countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and Mongolia. It is a remote place and its biodiversity makes it unique. Near the mountain, there is a lake called Teletskoye. The natives call it Altyn-Kyol, which is Russian for "Golden Lake".

Next in the list comes Italy's enchanting Mottarone Mountain. It is situated between Lake Maggiore and Lake Orta, which are the two most famous lakes. But you can also see other five dazzling lakes from the mountain: Lake Mergozzo, Lake Varese, Lake Comabbio, Lake Monate, and Lake Biandronno. The famous Monte Rosa together with the exquisite view these lakes provide form one of the most amazingly beautiful places in Piedmont and Lombardy.

Last but not least, we have the Himalayas. It is in the Himalayas Range that we can find three of the highest mountains on Earth: Mounts Makalu, Lhotse, and the famous Everest. But the region has also got hundreds of lakes. The largest is the Pangong t'so, which is situated in the border between India and Tibet. There are other two major lakes: the Tsongma, and the Gurudogmar, which is the highest lake in the region.

All in all, it is evident that near every great mountain we can usually find nice, scenic lakes to improve the landscape. They seem to be intrinsically connected. So, it is always a great idea to plan a trip to one of these paradisiacal lakes and mountains.
