[I554]It Career Builders Toolkit
by Sharon Walker, Sha
These days, you can hardly achieve any exciting career advancement without taking career builders. It is nearly impossible to just walk into an interview or ask for a promotion without bringing any proof of you value. A career builder is what can help you gain or increase that value. With a good career builder you will definitely become an employer head swinger.

Career builders can take a number of forms, and the usual type include training, seminars, workshops and continuing education. If you willingly and actively participate in these activities, you are sure to get an edge over others.

If you are looking for a job, you may simply document (with evidence) in your resume the skills you acquired in the builder programs. These might be enough to convince your future employer of you value and you do not even need to be interviewed. In case you are currently employed, taking a career building program can help improve the package of skills and services that you can offer to your employer. Whether it is an improved work attitude or new skills, the employer will definitely notice you more.

By letting the employer know that you have been to career building programs, you are not just showing off that you are highly capable, skilled and updated in your field. You are also giving an indication that you are committed and eager to advance your skills and knowledge for the benefit of the company. An employer loves no one better than an employee who is always open to change and improvement.

There is no double about what good career builders can do you, but many people become clueless when it comes to choose the right one to take. This is not because of the lack of choice, but, rather, the huge of number of choices for you to screen. You do not want to get stuck taking the wrong one. How can you tell which program is good and appropriate for you?

Undoubtedly, it is a good idea to ask for advice from a career consultant. Career counselors have been especially trained to find out the strengths and weaknesses of a person in a given field. This will allow him to assess which program fits you most in your situation.

Some people may require a gradual, long-term continuing education program. For others though, a less demanding form may achieve similar results in career advancement. The latter may include a one-day seminar on writing business letters, resumes and corporate memos, or some short courses about how to dress properly, how to speak in public and how to make simple presentations. Sometimes, a programs may help you achieve some improvement without actually being known as a career builder, such as seminars that teach you the simplest day-to-day business basics.

In essence, the choice of career builders is largely centered around "you". The program you choose should not only match your skills and competency but also your time and pocket. In any event, get yourself ready to embrace any opportunity that may lead to an improvement in career, be it long-term or short-term.

Whether you are searching for a job after getting fired or you are looking for a job other than the one you are working at currently, a number of steps in that process are the same. You need to get your resume up to date and must conform to newest standards, you need to get your wardrobe together and most especially, you need to be prepared to go for the interview-- you need to establish your career builders.

There are things that really play a vital role for your career success. One thing that really matters in order to land on your desired position is your career choice. You have to be focused, you have to determine the things that you love doing. Another is, by doing self assessment and you can do this by answering a career test or career check list.

Aside from what are mentioned above, you need to go with the current trends in technology because this provides great advantage. Did you know that in a fast paced society with all the high technology gadgets, employers and companies appreciate a good digital information or profile? When it is time to land a new job it is time for you to update your digital profile.

For those of you who might not know what a digital or information profile is, let's reminisce about digital profiles for just a second here. A digital profile is any and all information about you that can be found online most especially your information as a professional. It can be anything from your own homepage, over articles and answers that you have published on the Internet to videos and pictures of you. Anything that is somehow related to you and your name and can be found through Internet search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and other crawlers belongs to your digital profile or e-portfolio. Believe it or not, lots employers have started to check out your digital profile online by doing a little research on the Internet and finding any information about you. If it is on the Internet it is public information and therefore not illegal.

Therefore before going onto your next job-hunt, update your digital profile. Steps you can take to clean up your e-profile are many and one of the easiest ones is a regular search with different Internet search engines about things that are related to your name.

Again, you have to program your career builders-- career test, digital profile, self assessment.
